Curious question - what is the reason for sticking with a CD player and not something that handles Android Auto/Carplay?

Part creature of habit, part Mitsubishi nostalgia, part this isn't my daily and is just a fun occasional get outdoors rig.

Oh wait looking at it again it's not mine did not have an aux in or CD controls. Otherwise it's very similar though.

Part of me wants to put a CD player in my 3K for nostalgia. But now there are retro looking head units that have Apple carplay/Android auto.alienviking wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 6:46 pm Curious question - what is the reason for sticking with a CD player and not something that handles Android Auto/Carplay?
Re: The Half Monti
This truck has presented me with a dilemma as of late. Its been my "bad weather" commuter and has done a great job at it the last 2 years. However this last week I drove an hour to our southern office and back, and she was struggling to climb the hills (mountains to those not out west). I would have to down shift to 4th and even then she was struggling. I cant help but think I did damage to the motor when the oil pump gasket failed over a year ago. I know she ran low on oil, but no idea how low or if any damage occurred. Well, after this trip I was down almost 2 quarts on oil. No visible leaks, but I think me giving it the beans on the hills is really pushing her hard and that is magnifying the underlining issues.
I'm trying to decide if i want to motor swap it and get all that power back and then some. Any 6G7* motor will bolt up to the 5 speed trans. I've thought about a lot of variants, but not sure which way i want to go. I big part of me wants to utilize the 3.5 from the 2001 Montero i scrapped a while back. It had 201k miles and ran great when I pulled it. If I keep it as is, with the long runner intake it should be good for 200hp and like 215tq. That's a lot more than the 146hp that is currently in it. I would also be able to run off whatever fuel I want and not be limited to Premium like the 3.5 MIVEC.
If i do it I need to sort all the parts out now and get to refreshing whatever motor I choose to go with. Ill need to find out the electrical wiring as I don't think its the same as the mighty max. Then ill have to make a conversion harness and hook up a Montero ecu. Hmmm, or maybe i add a knock sensor, so I can push the tune???
Anyways I'm open to suggestions.

Re: The Half Monti
If you already have the 3.5, then just freshen it up and do that.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Re: The Half Monti
I really think that is the best option. It’s a solid power plant and really won’t cost me much to do the swap.

Jeff is the voice of reason. It isn't a performance vehicle - keep it simple, reliable and cheap.

I have a 1st gen complete TT motor with 105k miles. Just has bent valves from water pump failure. However not really wanting to tackle the turbo setup and fabrication on a rig that's main focus is DD and trail use. Now if i had a Starion...that would be a different story.
