I'm very disappointed in you. You're supposed to do this the other way around. You post it here, and then link everyone from 3SI. We're far too important to be making us click after we already did it once. Do you realize how much time this wastes? I'm like whole post behind now...Thanks.

Yeah, I thought about it, but then didn't want EVERYBODY on 3Si to know about this place. I know people have stuff about it in their sigs, but still. It's like a 'secret clubhouse' that you only want the cool people to know about. Sorry, I'm selfish sometimes...and an asshole :p

Sorry to say it, but it sounds like your output shaft is fucked. Probably the splines on the transfer case sleeve too :(
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Ding ding ding. I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I have pictures of the shaft and spool I'll post up once I'm done showering. I pulled the tcase off, cleaned everything up again, regreased it, and then put it back together and I can't get it to replicate the problem anymore. I did see some bare metal on the OS though whereas the rest was covered in grease/rust, so it was obviously slipping. Not sure if it just wasn't seated right the first time or what, but I'm gonna go try it again in a little bit and see what happens.

Either way, I knew before the problem started that I was going to need a new OS/spool....in fact, I keep forgetting to send my deposit to DH so I can get in on the group buy. This car is gay, that's $700 I didn't plan on spending. Who wants a red VR4? It's going to need a new home soon.

Ok, here's a couple pictures....they came out like crap, but I figured they would. The OS is worn kinda strange, it's triangular, but only to one side. It's like it's almost flat and then on one side there's still a ridge left. I guess that's why it was popping/slipping in reverse but not in any other gear, was because of how it's worn. Oh well, car is going to be sitting for a while now I think while I work some more and get the car done right. 13Ts are almost finished, North Bend OS and spool will be ordered shortly, ditch the 450s for some 680s, and get an Emanage. Anyways, on with the pics.

Yeah, pretty irritating considering that the trans/os/tcase/clutch was all replaced at 85k and the car has 104k on it right now. And since I've owned it (90k miles) it's seen 7 or 8 launches, if that. I drive it like a baby too, but oh well.

That I'm not sure of, I would assume the tcase and os were new. The car should be an 18 spline since it was built in November of 91, but it's 25. The trans was probably just rebuilt though.

I honestly don't launch the car often at all, I'm too paranoid about shit like this happening to even abuse the car.

As far as the reverse to first gear while moving, I don't think I do that, but I honestly can't remember, hard to remember cause it's like second nature I guess. I'm just as stumped as you are too....I wish it was something I was doing wrong, that way I would know what's actually causing it and I can prevent it from happening again. Stuff like this makes me way too nervous.

I've had TT's built in november 91 and they were 25 splines. Looks like you have an original OS and sleeve there. The VIN would be stamped on the trans. If it was a factory replacement it would have a Mitsubishi symbol and then "DOT" after it to show that it was replaced/rebuilt.

Hmm, interesting. Next time I'm out there I'll have to check. There's a number etched on the bottom of the tcase isn't there, near the front?

I don't recall seeing any type of VIN number etched to the t-case. The one on the trans is on the top of the trans right under the coil packs.

I could've sworn I saw a number somewhere on the case yesterday when I had it off. Now I'm curious.
