Time to get serious

Alright, the Humvee should be gone today. Even set up a time so I’m sure it’s gone this time. 13k.

My goal for my next vehicle is as such.

4x4- this has to be my get out into town no matter what to get to work vehicle. I am pretty sure I want to put selective electronic lockers in this vehicle as well.

Towing- I don’t have a trailer yet but given I have a garage that’s heated and cooled for my car, at some point I’m gonna want to be able to tow it places. It may just be to tow it home when broke. But it needs to tow my vehicle easily.

Family- most the time this vehicle will be for lowes trips. I need to be able to take the entire family. In reality I would like this to take us on family trips. And honestly wish it would be a Yukon or Tahoe except the next requirement

Bed- didn’t think I would use the Humvee bed as much as I did. Every week it hauled trash to the top of my hill. We burn our boxes so it would haul the boxes to the fire pit. I need to be landscaping my house and a trailer doesn’t work on the driveway (when towing the car the car would have to meet the trailer at the top) but a bed of dirt or rock does work. Just something you can’t put a mat down and deal with.

Is the avalanche the right choice or am I being blinded by everyone here talking about one? I can’t find any of the 6.0’s. The 2500’s seem to be all around me though. On less than 45 mins with 116k on it for 6,800.

In your situation I don't see how an Avalanche would be better than a regular crew cab truck to be honest.

Many more options. Not limited to just a Chevy Avalanche. You can look at Ford, Dodge, GMC, Chevy. Also a regular bed is wider and easier to get stuff in/out.

Only benefit of the Avalanche is the mid-gate. If you have no use for it, I don't see the point in you getting one.

Full size bed and full size back seat at all times on the pickup. The Avalanche only has one or the other at any given time. But the Avalanche is shorter than a crew cab long bed pickup.

I have seen some for sale and if we took towing off the list all together then your right. But I could see me using it to put in and out our boat, I did with the Humvee and I know my parents want rid of the Tahoe. So with that, at least a v8 is needed.


I still think the long bed when I need it and short bed other times is amazing given the wheel base. Maybe I’m also wrong in this but I feel people who bought trucks used them as trucks. I think 1/2 the people who bought an avalanche used them as a soccer mom vehicle. And so they arnt abused.

I will open my search to crew cabs just out of curiosity and alternate makers as stated above. That is a bonus.

Sounds like you really need a family suv and a 'farm' truck. Is there any reason you don't want 2 separate vehicles for this? A $10-12k Yukon/Expedition/Sequoia and then a $2-4k Ranger/mighty max/taco?

I second the Mighty Max Taco truck. 4x4 V6 with LSD is a lot of fun and difficult to get stuck as its so light. Then have an SUV for your family.

Finding one that's not a shitbox is a bit of a challenge. Hell, finding a 4x4 at all is tough for us.

I would love two vehicles instead of one. But if I get another vehicle besides the truck it will be some old school rwd vehicle. Something I can be accepted at car meets with.

I’ve been looking hard at the avalanches. I would like the 2500 but more than likely I’m gonna end up with an 09. Mainly their rarity and trashed out for the 2500’s is gonna be hard to find a good one.

Been going back through all I’ve saved over the past couple weeks. About half have been sold. GA has a million of these and that’s perfect, southern vehicle. What’s I’ve realized is they are right in the edge of my budget. Basically I can buy the vehicle but taxes are over my budget. I’m gonna make a list today of all the ones I want to go look at, distance and price. I’m sure the wife will not be happy with me wanting to spend more money but I’m gonna use the whole “don’t have my Humvee anymore” as leverage. Lol. Or I might pay off the escape and take out a small loan for the avalanche in the same payment amount. Win win.
