I dont know what heads are cross compatible, but there are quite a few newer Subaru's in my local pick n pull. Its kind of eerie.

Unfortunately only 02-05 WRX or Saabaru 9-2x Aero.

Finding heads either complete reman or building new

Finally found a place to get remanufactured heads from and they are showing up today

That did take a while. Why didn’t you take yours to a machine shop again?

I did, they said they were trash and I needed new ones

6 months later I finally put the new short block on my 2nd engine stand so I can star assembling the new engine.

And the reman heads i got back in March are basically trash

Really, what went wrong there?

The left head has a crack and the casing should be replaced, 2 of the 4 camshafts have a flat spot on the lobe and need replacement, the valve stem seals are all wrong valve guides are worn and lose, etc, etc, etc.

I'm sending them back to the place I bought them from for warranty replacement/repair, but also buying a set of remanufactured heads from the local Subaru shop I trust. Then I'll sell the warranty replacements when they come back to me.

Man, how can they not catch that crap. Almost better off finding used heads at the junk yard.

Sadly WRX don't make it to pick n pull and when they do they're picked by professional pickers in a day or two

Welp $2000 later I have heads I actually trust I can use, and then will try to sell the warranty replacements later.
