No its the GM Locking rear diff. Its mechanical and requires it to slip before it locks up. Its basically a limited slip style but fully locks up.

Hmm. So its a clutch pack locker with a speed and directional mechanical sensor. Sucks that it kicks out over 20mph or even in turns. I mean thats somewhat ok for regular everyday street use, but not offroading.

They don't get called "Gov Bombs" for nothing.

They pretty much say it’s a 50/50 chance they go boom when they engage. I have read thicker fluid helps. Read a little brake pressure helps. I have thicker fluid and I keep a little brake pressure when I know it’s gonna slip. No telling if it actually helps or not.

Coop
Thats way too much effort to keep that in check. They should have just stuck to a LSD and maybe pulled a couple discs out, so it would have better road manners. Prob solved.

They are called gov bombs but honestly how many are out there? How many Chevy’s had them and still have them? Hell my wife’s Tahoe has ones. They do blow up, but not near as many that are out there.

I can’t win. I can’t.

Avalanche wouldn’t start this morning. It’s at the top of the hill. It’s 1 degree. Battery low. Brand new battery. 2 months old.

Fine. Let’s use this jump starter I got.

Wouldn’t turn on. It did once, wouldn’t charge up. Freezing. Pissed. Go back down the hill and get the escape. Driveway sucks. I’ve worked 4 hours on it over the past two days. Got to the top, swapped over stuff, got to work.

Fuck all the pre planning I try to do. Fuck it.

I get it. Audi is like driving on a greased cookie sheet, truck doors don't work when it gets below freezing, and the Hummer is still broken. Wonderful time of year.

Try to look at it this way. This was an annoying inconvenience at worst. At least you have relatively easy solutions close at hand.

I have solutions to my problems too. I just don't like them. But we're still doing a lot better than a whole lot of people.

I know you said the battery is new, but have you thought about just putting a bigger one in? Mine has an H6, and can take an H7 as a plug and play upgrade. I can go as big as an H8 if I get the 2018+ diesel battery tray. I don't know how much that would help in extreme cold, but it could be a good halfway point between what you have now and the crazy dual setup for the extended storage periods.

Ahh. Gotcha. I have the same problem with the hummer. It's been parked indoors for a few weeks now. The battery was at 6v when I went to run some diagnostics on the locker circuit. My HF battery tender claims to have revived it. We'll see.
