A savings account where you get 0.02% interest instead of 0.01%

So what’s the goal of this vehicle? Weekend fun? Daily gas saver? Place to vape?

Honestly not sure. I had originally planned on dropping a JDM EJ205 in it and farting around for a bit and then selling it for a bit of profit. However, the JDM route isn't as clean as easy as my initial research lead me to believe. Now I'm doing an OE short block and head work. Spending 2-3x what I had originally planned.

Subaru sure knows how to make an engine as ugly as possible.

Do subi people do strokers or bigger oddly snapped engine swaps?

There are a few 2.7 or so 'stroker' blocks from companies like Cosworth, but they are expensive for what you get. There's some LS swapped ones running around but they lose AWD. Some people swap in the 3.0 HEY Subaru engine and then Turbo that.

So just for comparison, there are a good number of 400awhp 3/s, plenty of 500….then you see the 600-800 every so often and just a few 1000….what’s that compared to subi? Or don’t they care?

It's much harder to make good power in them. They're so fragile.
Can it be done? Yes. If you got the money.

Gotcha. Sometime I will take a deep dive and learn a bunch about subi’s but I will prob wait till I buy one and then think, oh shit I should have read about these first.

400whp is fairly attainable, but much beyond that and you need deep pockets for continuing rebuilds. The biggest thing to remember is even the last STi (2015-2021, VA chassis) is still 350+ lbs lighter than a typical 3S. Also the cars original purpose is massively different. The 3S is a grand touring car, and the WRX is a homologated WRC car, WRX literally stands for World Rally eXperimental. If high speed and TX2K is your jam you'll never understand most turbo Subarus.

This. I have a buddy locally who opened up a shop. 80% of his business is Subarau's. Why? Because they break all the time, especially once you start to mod them.

Most owners suck. That’s the main issue with Subarus.
