Another?

Post by Duck Vader »

Danielle is really struggling with driving her forester to/from ellensburg for work. She doesn't want to get rid of it, so looking for something cheap - max $10k, low profile to help with wind, reliable, and good mpg. She currently gets about 20-22 average so 30+ would be nice. Would like something I can fit comfortably in as well.

My thoughts are:

Prius
Camry

And that is about all I can think of right now? What am I missing?

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Fit is too high profile. Looking for sleek to help with the high cross winds.

If a Forrester and Honda Fit are too high of a profile, what makes you think an SUV will work??

Honda Civic fits in what you want.

What does it matter if it meets the gas mileage he wants? He wants in sleek for that reason. Crv fits the bill. But yes a civic would be more ideal.

Coop
he wants low profile due to crosswinds.

We averaged 29mpg on our 2016 outback to southern California last week. I had the cruise set at 72 most of the drive.

Yup, its HUGE.

I know you can appreciate a large interior as well. The Fit is larger and more comfortable than a Civic or similar sized car. Yes i know its your wife's car, but I'm betting you will be in that car at times as well.

PS we have a stretch of highway that runs along the back side of the Sierras that produces terrible cross winds. Semi's are constantly overturned on strong wind days. I feel no different in my Fit compared to any other small car. If anything it feels more aerodynamic.

Ya, she doesn't get near that mpg in the Forester.

I keep telling her she needs to rent something or find someone who will let her do a long test drive to see how it feels in different vehicles with the crosswinds. Even in the vette I have to fight sometimes. For me, I dont care. I can drive my truck with the bed cap and not give a damn. But she has crazy high anxiety that all her surgeries and hormones being out of whack still is not helping. Heart rate is usually 150 or so for her on the drive and adding the crosswinds she freaks out and by the time she gets to work she is already exhausted. We would not be keeping it long term. Just a few years until we move up there to help her.

Ideally good mpg to help compensate for the difference in cost of driving there in hers vs what would we pay for something low profile plus fuel. We don't have to "save" money, but the closer we can get to breaking even, the better.

Mentioned that to her. She got excited. So might dig into that a bit. Preferably a 2nd gen premier, but depends on cost.

Sell the forester now. I know she wants to keep it, but why?

Get another one after you move.

Let her drive the vette! No cross wind will get her.
