Undecided next steps

I am for sure going to look at selling the Ford. In reality, what I bought it for never came to be, so I am spending $ each month to let it sit. In the last two years I have maybe put on 5000 miles. I do use it, but not enough to justify wasting money to let it sit in the driveway.

That said, since I do use it, I am debating on trading in the Outback on a lease on a new truck for the next few years. That way I have the convenience and comfort of a modern vehicle and the occasional utility of a truck. I can get about $28-$30k on a trade in for the Outback, leaving a lease payment of next to nothing. That would also free up our driveway so we don't have 3 vehicles out there all the time.

My problem is that I am emotionally attached to the Outback and it has been a great vehicle. Danielle and I both have our "his and hers" wilderness subarus that we take off-road on occasion together. I know it is kind of weird, but with how shitty my life has been lately, it is nice to have that connection.

As mentioned in shout/chat I have been sick lately too. Like seeing multiple specialists and even an ER trip level of sick. Also dealing with a shoulder injury. Danielle will also more than likely need her thyroid removed (just had her hysterectomy this past year as well), and my dog not only has cushings but is now also diabetic, so our medical bills are going up. Her mother is also not doing well and we are trying to help her.

We can afford it, but it will make things tighter than we are comfortable for the next couple of years.

I could sell the vette, but it is one of the few joys I still have in my life right now so that one is not on the table yet.

With all that, I am just trying to figure out if worth getting rid of the Outback for a new truck lease, or if I should just keep it and live without a truck and just rent one or a trailer as needed.

Having an expensive piece of equipment sitting for "maybe I need it one day" is a terrible financial decision when that money should be focused elsewhere.

That's kind of where I'm leaning. Part of me looks at what the high end gmc sierra Denali offers and that's where I tumble a bit.

Heated, cooled, massage seats. Super cruise. Great cameras. Etc. Plenty of comfortable space. I'm more physically comfortable in a truck vs outback.

I don't know though.

Either way I'm cleaning out the truck this weekend and listing it.

You can still take the Outback and future truck out on trails together. I think it'd actually be more fun to play around with vehicles that have such different capabilities.

Optioned out how I would have.

If I sell both the f250 and outback, I could put 15k down, payment would be about the same as I do now, but could put 15k into savings as well. That would give me a good buffer for 15 or so years even without my yearly raises, as in case with stuff coming up, and by 2030 her subaru and a few other things will be paid off and by the time I'd pay this off and student loans are done, we would have about 5-6k extra every month to play around with.

Either way it's saving money.

We had some unexpected medical bills and other things pop up I don't discuss with BAWC.

Our savings is lower than we feel comfortable with. By selling the truck yes we get some monthly wiggle room, but would be in trouble with another big unexpected expense. If I sell both and buy a new truck then we have that savings until things turn around and we can continue to do things we need for our mental health as well.

Either way we will be ok. Just we have some things coming up that the extra savings would be a really nice piece of mind.

Still not decided on everything yet.

Actually have 2 people interested in my truck on Friday and going to bring the Subaru by the Subaru stealership on Friday while I am off. They emailed me saying they want to buy my Subaru, and they are offering a premium for used ones right now. I am going to see what they would even offer out of curiosity.

Just sell the truck and Subaru and get a new expensive truck. It is what you will end up doing anyway so save yourself the weeks of arguing hah.

New with a lease payments with the 3.0 for better mpg would take 10 years of driving an older one with the 6.2 based on my usage to break even.

What one? Optioned almost exactly the same. Red is a buy back, 6ft bed, 30k miles, radio in bed, factory performance package, tow mirrors. But needs new wheels and tires and came from Virginia and over by Seattle now. Brown is 5ft bed and 55k miles, but not a buyback and has spent entire life in central Washington and is still on this side.

Spoke with both dealers. Red one is willing to negotiate price. Brown won't. I have a feeling that it will sell before I can get over there though.

Yeah he doesn't drive his truck much so he's selling it and the outback to get a truck

Yes. Selling both to get one that covers both needs. I put 5k over two years on the truck, and maybe 10 on the outback the last two years. Making payments on the truck to let it sit. Getting a truck that has all the nice features and comforts of the outback, but also allows me to use it as a truck when I need it. It will also save me money since by trading in both I lose 1 of my insurance payments and will have a lower monthly payment I have now on the truck I dont use.

The ones I am looking at are crew cab instead of extended cab, getting better MPG than the F250, but not as good as the Outback (so compromise between the 2), but will have 360 cameras, heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise, etc. So all the luxuries of the outback + more, and the ability to use the truck as a truck, and save me money each month. Also frees up space in the driveway. So it is a win/win for me. I also much prefer to daily a truck than the Outback. We are financially in a good way, so no, I don't NEED to do any of this. But I want to and I can. I didn't need the C6, but I could so I did. I don't "need" a home gym, a nice TV, gaming systems, nice house, pets, etc. But I worked my ass off to get to this point in my life, so why not?
