I'd prefer the pre-facelift S or X, but regardless of that they are still the best electric vehicles you can get.

It looks like Ford isn't screwing around with that new Mach-E. Sucks that it won't be out until early 2021 though.

The "regular" version looks lame from a performance perspective, but the GT version could be cool. The GT is going to be expensive though.

I finally broke down and bought a spare PCM to use for some of my bench programming stuff. These things are pretty cheap if you get one out of a truck. They're also really beefy. It's chunky aluminum and considerably bigger than the 4G Eclipse computer, which was in turn quite a bit bigger than a 3S computer.

I need to write my Corvette's VIN to it. From everything I've read, the software won't let you change the VIN. Ok...so I'll just open it up and write the EEPROM manually.
Except...I think it's welded shut.

Friction stir welding maybe? That's cool. It'll be a huge pain in the ass, but it's cool.

I have a spare PCM as well. Early on it wasn't well known whether GM could detect flashes to these ECUs (they can), so I had one as a spare to flash away on - but I guess there's some way they can detect if you swapped ECUs in the car as well. I haven't really been paying attention to all that, so maybe some of that has changed now.

I think GM corporate can dig that info out. It's not available in the scan tools. There's a copy of GMs diagnostic protocols floating around on the internet, but it dates back to 2010, before all this reflash counter nonsense. If I can get the VIN changed on this thing, I might try to see if I can dig it out. I'll have to use one of the dummy VINs I have an SPS subscription for. I don't want there for be 50 flashes on my real VIN

None. The only reason I got this was to build a setup where I can bench flash other parts, like the infotainment stuff I've been working on. The first thing the official GM software does is checks to see if there's a working engine module.

It absolutely boggles my mind how everything is integrated now.
Also, friction welding is pretty sweet, lets just spin/rub something fast enough on the metal to get it hot and weld it. It also makes sense to me they are welded shut, cause aren't they normally in the engine bay now, so they have to be waterproof right?

Some of them are in the engine bay. Mine is sandwiched between the passenger side fender and the car's inner structure.
The Mitsu ECU is in the engine bay too, and they made due with an o-ring and a plastic splash shield.
