$10k Full Size Truck - Are there any good ones?

I really need to go test drive a newer colorado. The ones at work are the older ones. I know I don't fit in the new Ranger and the Frontiers are really bad too. Tacoma is OK, but feels way to overpriced and cheap. I know the newer Colorado would be out of my price range, but the MPG difference might make it worth it.

My biggest concern is long term reliability. Ideally I would like to keep whatever I get for 100k+ miles. It will be used for all sorts of activities. Probably going to start hunting again soon, so smaller ones are nicer for that to get down trails. But bigger ones will tow more (camper down the line, side by side, cars, etc) and have more interior room, but again, is also a bigger footprint and of course lower MPG.

Find a 100k mile excursion. They are out there. They are huge but would do anything you want.

Should definitely get a Peterbilt or Kenworth. That should be able to tow all the things you might one day down the road in 10 years have to tow.

It's got a 5,000 lb. towing capacity, what can you imagine in the next 1-2 years needing to tow that is more than 5,000 lbs?

Then you probably should wait, and buy something newer with less miles if it's going to be for the long haul.

You try to plan for something that MIGHT happen 5 years down the road (seriously - towing more than 5K lbs? Get real here..) and worry about getting a mansion on an apartment rental budget. If you actually want to ever buy something you need to make compromises. Just how it is.

Depends on what size engine you get in it. Might not be able to tow 100,000 lbs. unless you get the biggest engine!

Well considering in general semi trucks are limited to 80,000lbs GCVW it wouldn't be too big of a deal breaker


In more seriousness IIRC the 1st gen Tundra is rated for 6500lbs or so depending on equipment.

Yeah but you can get heavy load permits beyond 80,000 lbs. So best to play it safe and get the 600hp Cummins.

And what I saw on the Tundra it was like 4700-5500lbs.

IIRC most of the sites limit their returns to the 'base' configuration. So a V6 without the tow package is like 4k.
