Wait a second...i just saw that last post...Nissan is an English word??? What rock do you live under?
"日産" = "Ni SAn"
Part of "日産自動車株式会社" which is the offical name for "Nissan Motor Company, ltd."
日産 = Ni San (the NAME)
自動車 = Ji do sha Motorcar/Motor design/anything automotive industry (車 = Car)
株式会社 = I'm not sure on which phonetic sounds to apply to the Kanji, but it basically means company
Saying it Ni sEn would mean the number 2000 (depending on Kanji obviously)

Knee-San IS how you pronounce it. It's Japanese...you guys are pronouncing it wrong.
[/quote]
No, you'de be wrong AGAIN! Just because a word is Japanese, DOES NOT mean you are saying it right. It's spelt NISSAN. There are NO E's. There are NO silent H's in there. Americans drag words out. It's what you guys do. Lets just agree to dissagree.
When I was speaking with Melis yesterday, I found that she had quite a good American accent which really wasn't too strong. This is why she could pull off an Aussie (long pause for crude effect) accent.

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
lol
Sorry dude, I speak Japanese, while I couldn't hold out a long conversation with someone from Japan (I just don't have the vocabulary) I know how the words are pronounced and can read the kanji I posted just fine
Ni San is pronounced Knee (short) San (short) The double S in the english spelling SHOULD denote that there is a very slight pause between the "knee" and "san", but it's probably just there because it looks good.
I can tell you how it's pronounced because I can read it in Japanese, can you?
(maybe my Kanji (japanese) characters don't show up on your computer?"
Here's how you claim the way Aussies pronounce it in Japanese:
二千 = Ni sEn (2,000)
Here is how Nissan spells it
日産 = Ni sAn
America 1
Austrailia 0

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
I'm going to blame this on you speaking to American who don't know how to speak English, I've never heard anyone pronounce things the way you are saying we do except people with a thick southern accent.
how do you guys pronounce Karaoke? Everyone over here says it wrong "care-ee-oh-key" when it should be "kah-rah-oh-keh"

Man, your not hearing me. I know your listening, BUT YOUR NOT HEARING ME! Argh! We here in Australia, say it the way I have already told you. You lot drag the name out. NOBODY here in Oz says it like Americans do, and you guys are the only ones who say it that way.

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
ROFL!
Scotty doesn't talk to NorthWesterners enough. I've never heard anybody from around here say "cin-eh-mer". That's a Southern thing.
And just to say the same thing as everybody else: It is Nee-Sahn. Japanese pronunciation for a Japanese name. Americans are actually pretty good about things like that, at least around here.
The thing that irks ME is the horrible bastardization of French into American words. Take for example "cach?". If you pronounced it as "cash", you need to be bludgeoned. A computer doesn't have "cash". You're doing it wrong.
If you're going to try picking on our pronunciation, you might as well do it over things we actually say wrong.
Like "puma".

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
Obviously, the problem is that Ozzies simply don't understand language.
They're called phonetics. Try 'em sometime. I think you'll like them.
EDIT: Forums problems FTW!
Heh, just got to read your posts Jagd. pwnd.

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
All these explanations on language, when what I said stands true. Australians say it how I said we say it. And the Japanese say it that way also.
THE JAPANESE I HAVE HEARD ANYWAYS!
Oh, pity you couldn't bring one of your explanations to something I actually asked for.

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
This question was just asked in Car and Driver...
Is a Beemer the motorcycle and a Bimmer the car, or is it the other way around? Or are they both Beemers? Is there a correct spelling for these nicknames? Who decides this stuff anyway?
The official word fronm BMW is that, back in the day, British BSA motorcycles were referred to as "Beezers," which kind of how BSA sounds if you pronounce it like a word. Correspongingly, BMW bikes recieved the "Beemer" shorthand. BMW cars were called "Bimmers" to differentiate them from the BMW motorcycles. It wasn't until vapid yuppies started buying BMWs in the 1980s that the whole Beemer?Bimmer confusion started. So don't make a faux pas in mioxed company at your next garden party: A BMW car is a Bimmer, not a Beemer.

Funny...around here it's pronounced "gh-ay-ee".
And Scotty: You don't watch much Japanese TV, do yas? Listen to a commercial sometime.

Nissan is and always will be pronounced knee sahn.
I have family with thick southern accents and havent even heard them say cinemar. LOL Scotty you need to quit talking to people when youre drunk so you can understand them.

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
I hadn't heard about this before it was brought up not too long ago by Pav I think. If your pronouncing it the way I think you are (as in, how it's spelt) then again, you are different from us. We call people who drive BMW cars Beamer owners. Pronounced the same way Steamin Willie Beaman (Any Given Sunday) is, except of course, with an er at the end. I haven't heard people use Bimmer here before.

I say it as "beemer" but the spelling is still Bimmer.

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
I dont.
Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
The west coast states don't have much of any accent. Apparently we talk really fast though.
But anywho...I can assure you I don't say those words like you've stated dear Scotty!
And they are right about how you say Nissan. I wonder how you guys down there pronouce Korean words/names. lol.

I was talking about that with my friend the other day, who's from England. He says "pew-mah" where as I say "poo-mah". His brother says it the same way I do too, but I've also heard other people say it "pew-mah". I think both ways sound dumb to me....there's just no good way to say that word

Re: Is it Bimmer? Or Beamer?
We have always said pew-mah, but only because the only thing that we had reference to, was the clothing brand. The Argentinian Rugby team are known as the Poo-mahs, so that's what we say now.
