Holy @#^$ damn hex cap on the waterneck.

Post by Jay »

Step 1: Insert 8mm allen wrench, realize that it won't turn shit.

Step 2: Dremel cut the allen wrech to a peice that fits into an 8mm 1/4 drive socket. Attach socket to 1/4 to 3/8 drive adapter. Attach wrench. Attarch 19mm deepwell and 12" extension to end of wrench for torquey fun. Turn wrench, snap 1/4 to 3/8 drive adapter. FUCK

Step 3: Go to sears and buy an 8mm allen hex 3/8 drive socket. Attach 3/8 to 1/2 drive adapter. Attach 1/2 drive 2' breaker bar. Round off hex nut in the water neck. Hammer on the hex socket again. Round off the hex nut some more.'

Step 4: Drain coolant. Remove 10 coolant lines from waterneck. Remove coil pack bracket. Remover 4 12mm bolts. Remove waterneck.

Step 5: Drill out hex cap, use oxyacectiline (sp?) torch to heat up waterneck. Insert 10mm hex socket. Remove cap.

Step 6: Using thread sealant, install coolant temp sensor.

Step 7: Start reassembling. Tighten about four leaks.

Fuck this shit.

edit: could a mod plz move to car section, I'm very tired and thought I was in that forum. :(

Sounds like my clutch job

1> Remove 50 hoses, brackets, pipes and assorted other BS to clear path to transmission

2> Remove 25 bolts to free transmission from engine. Curse the lack of a small child to reach into small places to remove 23 of those bolts.

3> Attach engine hoist, start to lower trans out of car. Trans gets wedged between cross member and clutch

4> Spend next 20 minutes lowering the trans in 1mm increments until it pops free

5> While leaning on car catching your breath, notice rear turbine housing has 180 degree crack in it.

FUCK
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

I'd like to see that housing. Especially since I have to replace my rear turbo too....

Mine's a TD05, so it's not exactly and apples to apples comparison.

I'm SO pissed off. I've driven the car 5 miles from my shop to my house when I installed those housings (replaced some huge ass Bullseye housings). I didn't even get it under boost since it was icy out. Since then I've run the car up to operating temp in my driveway a couple times, and that's it. If it's cracked all the way through, I am seriously going to have an emotional breakdown.

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

that was so optimistic, i almost gagged ;) :D

Jeff, when did you install td05s??
And if it's not cracked all the way around, what can you do? Aren't those housing precision designed?

I got rid of the oversized bullseye housings and went back to the Mitsu crap to try to reduce lag.

She is indeed a wonderful woman. But how lucky am I that I met said girl, realized how wonderful it is to be with her, yet I am prevented from doing so by the circumstances of our lives? Both a blessing and a curse...

Step 1: Omit steps 1-7 above - Drain radiator, remove oem coolant sensor, replace with aftermarket sensor[/quote] :D :D

Step 2: Wonder why the hell your ECU just freaked out because it no longer has a temp reading.

Step 3: Make sure you removed the "temp sensor for gage unit", not the "temp sensor for ecu" :p

Step 4: Bitch slap Jeff for being overly tired and stuck on an agonizing support call for the last 56 minutes :(

I'm putting the stocker back alongside the stack sensor so that the aem and stack won't fight over the stack sensor.

but yeah, I'm tired of 3000's. Seriously

So the whole point of the exercise was to add an additional sensor. Is that why it's having an issue with cold start?

You can only cal the coolant temp sensor on aem but so much. So it is cal'd for midrange temp. The stack is throwing it off, but now they are two separate systems.

Yes, that's why cold temps are not a happy time for the car.

I can always make an extra spot in the garage for your car Jay....if you feel the need, just send it my way! :D

Seriously though, you know you love that car. You put waaaaaay too much time and money into it to let it go.
