Pick one.

Post by DCIV »

All these have something wrong but my backs against a wall.

Front runner
Local. All service records. Hate that it’s red and maybe too small. Talked to him. He will take the blown up escape for 2k.

Next
But it spent 40k miles in NY and it’s got the 3.5 so little worse gas mileage.

Eh. Little costly and fwd

Out of my price range and also fwd but I like it.

You have to buy something tomorrow? Fixing the Escape just isn't an option?

Rent a car in the short term and get the Escape or Tahoe back to 100% before you make any long term decisions.

If I have to pick I like the red NX the best, but I'm a sucker for that color combo.

I'm also with Jeff why not rent something until you get one of the other 2 cars fixed?

The escape new engine is the same amount it’s worth. I called up ford and it would be almost 2 months to get a new engine. They don’t do head gaskets. Not saying I couldn’t. But I worry that I could. So given that timeline and cost, it just doesn’t seem smart to try and fix the escape.

Renting the cheapest car from enterprise for 5 days was 300 bucks. That gives me 5 days. That’s nothing in the search for a car. This was the wife’s thoughts as well. To me it’s just throwing away money.

The Tahoe is already sitting without a trans right now waiting on the new one, but that’s still 2 weeks. So I could spend 600 for a rent a car till the Tahoe is fixed and buy some time. But still seems like throwing good money away.

I don’t know if the Lexus can do the driveway. It has an inch less ground clearance than the escape and I can’t find the escapes approach angle. I can find the Lexus though.

Anything cheaper out there that is a decent deal you can just pay cash for, then turn around and sell it to make most of your money back? Something just to use until you find what you really want?

They replaced a whole bunch of head gaskets on Focus RS when they had the wrong ones. Definitely can be done on the 4 cylinders without much issue. The issue with the RS was depending on how blown the head gasket was it could’ve needed a bead or a new engine.

I agree though you should just rent for a bit to take time to make a decision. Even if it’s 2 weeks and $600, that’s a lot less than $20k plus on a car…

I’m not renting a vehicle. I’m not buying a shitty one for cash. I do however need a vehicle asap.

Does anyone have anything to say about those posted?

He offered me 2k for the escape.

Cost to replace the head

Trade in value

Private party value

So I MIGHT get a couple extra if I fix it and sell it myself. Otherwise. Pretty damn fair trade in.

I don't like any of them at all, but if I had to pick one, it would be the red one as well.

Not really an input on any of the cars listed but the offer for the Escape seems pretty good to me.
