Expedition for best blend of daily usability and occasional hauling capability.
Trucko Grande if you absolutely need something close at hand when the impulse strikes you to tow a small apartment block.

The reality is the Expedition is better for everything except for towing the travel trailer, looks, and holding value. I really love how that F250 looks, and while the Expedition looks nice it's nothing like that F250.

Because of what Jeff said.
You complain about how big your F150 is now, and the Expedition is smaller, but can carry significantly more cargo inside, and can still tow your trailer. It’s basically a short bed F150 with a full cabin.

Based on your needs I would say the Expedition as well.
But if it was me, 250 all day long no questions. I use the bed of mine all the time. Towing is nice for down the line, but the pay load of the 250 is why I got mine. Lot of large, dirty, heavy things go in it all the time and it is only ever just me and the wife so cabin space isn't an issue.

I’m gonna go with, f250 and get the wrx to done to daily. Drive the f250 till you do. Then you get the fun small vehicle with better gas than any of those but have the option to tow whatever you want in the future.

I had the expedition from CarMax for a 24 hour test drive and dropped it off this morning. Their price is about 5k high and it's just not in good enough condition to justify that kind of premium.

Those are both very large vehicles and have not so great fuel economy. Doesnt your dad have a diesel for towing the boat and camper? I would stick to a 1/2 ton truck, so you could enjoy life a little more.

No they have an Expedition and a motorhome in addition to several other cars lol. He has a 1970 F250 but I'm pretty sure my truck is better at towing than that old truck would be.
It's funny my wife wants that expedition because she likes the color and massive (known to be problematic) moon roof. My mom thinks the expedition is the right thing to do. My dad thinks I should stay with a truck. I kinda prefer the look of a truck, but I also judge people who have a truck just to say they have a truck

Is what I suggested just not in the cards?

Funny your wife wants the land yacht (Expedition). Has she tried parking that thing, let alone your F150? My wife hates driving my truck due to its overall size. I would pick the truck first, but even then I dont like most modern diesels.

She doesn't mind my truck and that expedition is 2 feet shorter than my truck is currently. As for diesel it does concern me because they're so costly when they break and I know so little about it compared to gas vehicles. My problem is the 7.3 gas 250 Lariat is very hard to find and it's usually only $3k-$4k less on the used market than a similar diesel truck. My thinking is "well why not get the diesel?"

I get that. Many fleets are switching over to the comparable gas variants due to servicing costs. My last company truck was just that. Is your current F150 uncapable of your current towing needs?

Even if you have to drive the truck for a year before the wrx is finished it’s still gonna be better long term than trying to back track if the expedition doesn’t tow well. Too bad you couldn’t hook something up and see.

I'm over payload capacity when we go camping by a good amount, plus the 5.0 lacks low end torque. It's acceptable on perfectly flat ground, or when I am continually climbing and can keep the RPM over 3500. Before the travel trailer my truck did what I needed it to well enough, but now it's just barely adequate.

The only real concern towing wise with the expedition would be how stable it is towing with trailer sway. That one has the 400hp and 480lb-ft Ecoboost.

Would a larger Chevy or Dodge 1/2 ton have better low end grunt then? Dont they go up to 6.1 or so in the chevy 1/2 tons?

Yeah the GM 6.2 trucks have a lot more low end torque, but GM only believes in tiny fuel tanks. I'm sure the 6.2 towing is going to get like 8mpg and on a 24 gallon tank that's just not enough range for my comfort. Yes, Frode I'm going to stop before I run out of gas anyways but I don't want to have to get gas every stop.
As for the Ram I do actually like the 1500 trucks, but it's hard to track down a tow package one, with the 34 gallon tank and the trailer brake controller.
