I use to like doing it. I still like knowing it’s right, still like looking everything over. But I’ve gotten so I don’t enjoy doing it. Lol.
So who still does their own oil?

Depends on the vehicle. Right now the truck and subarus no. I let the dealership do those. Can get decent enough price and not have to deal with disposal. Haven't decided about the vette yet.

I do them. Don’t need some place screwing it up.

Also the Subarus are under warranty. Mine has a lifetime powertrain as long as I have a dealer do the work and a long ass bumper to bumper. Hers is still under the standard one.
Truck uses so much oil and honestly only needs 1-2 changes a year so not like I'm saving that much. Still might do my own eventually with it since I'm not stock anymore.
Vette had a fresh change when I got it so no need anytime soon.

I don’t do the wife’s just because it’s a crap ton of oil to deal with. I don’t even have a single pan that would hold all of it.

I still do all of mine, but man an extractor sounds like a big win if its nearly as easy and quick.

I do them both now. I want 5w30 in the truck and not the water 5w20 Ford specified for US market trucks only. We used to have someone do the outback for us when it was under warranty, but now that it's both age and mileage out I do it on my own.

I would be interested in a oil suction device thread. If any of you have tried them and if they are worth the investment. Im tired of spilling oil and laying under the car more than needed.

I have one for the boat. It’s old school, hand pull vacuum. Takes forever as we run 50w in the boat. I bet most modern oil and warm it would do much better.
My thinks it’s all those is you still have to get the oil filter out. I am pretty good with the drain plug, but never with the filter.

Depends on the vehicle for the filter for me.

I realize the oil filter will need to be done, but thats a lot less oil spilling potential that the drain, or kicking a full oil bucket.

Just got a cheap Amazon one. It works well, can use either the handle or an air compressor.

It’s slower but it gets out almost everything vs leaving some in the pan with a regular drain plug.

How long does it take to empty the pan? Pump vs air.
