Alright. Let’s do it. All out, grudge match.

Is it smart to do an electric car….any sort of electric car. Hybrid, full, assist….post them, let’s talk about them!

Look…with the price of cars going up teslas are in the range of most vehicles now. They use to be way to expensive to justify the amount of problems they will have and the cost of repairs. Now….they are in the conversation. Also, years ago, right before the Humvee I looked at a volt. Others here have owned a volt or would own a volt. There is even a member whose wife drives a hybrid jeep!!!! The convertible for men has a hybrid option!!!!

So.…post them and justify them. If you would need to have a gas burner to make life possible if full electric you have to say so! With that being said.

Now, it’s got 100 less distance than the teslas. Minus awd of the Tesla…but I think it being a ford it might have better build quality. Yup. I said it. Ford build quality over Tesla. Still need a trip vehicle though.

At half the price of the others…..not needing a trip vehicle….but they quit making them. Don’t know if that’s good or bad. It’s super tempting though for the price.

I could drive this. Not many would know as it’s a lesser known electric. Looks a lot like the above but just not the stigma. Would need a trip vehicle but also priced nice.

An electric car makes perfect sense for me to go to and from work in. 50-60 miles/day and can charge overnight in the garage. Still don’t want one, and wouldn’t chose one over my RS.

If it was just a to/from work/shopping, sure. But with my lifestyle it still doesn't make sense. Long weekends away, camping, off-roading, hauling, etc., full electric is still not worth it.

Only things I'd consider are hybrids. I liked what they volt was, but I was uncomfortable in it as I got bigger again.

The ability to walk get gas into a remote location is much easier than electricity. Also the infrastructure out here is pretty much non existent for electric. Too rural.

As long as we have the cabin we need something rugged. Period. If we didn't have that I'd drive an electric car in a heart beat. I wouldn't touch a Tesla though for several reasons.. I can't stand Musk, their build quality is crap, they are over priced for what they are and I think their idea of beta testing their software by customers on the road should be outlawed.

I would probably look at a Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 GT-line or maybe a Mac-E. And as much as I hate to say it - the new Prius.

Setting price aside I'd be all over a PHEV F150 lol I really want the basic hybrid they have out now but I can't justify their cost. Also you know panic attack the last time I got into the finance office to buy a truck... My wife could absolutely use an electric car for her daily usage now.

We will be purchasing a new car for my wife soon. I think i started a thread on it, but we have narrowed it currently down to the New Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4XE (plug in hybrid) or Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. Big price gap between the two. lol.

I know a way you can get that overpriced fiat for 1% under dealer invoice...

But seriously. If you do go for it there is a program you can join through treadlightly. Once a member for a certain amount of time you get access to that pricing on most jeep/dodge/etc.

I was just looking at some of those E jeeps. Damn fast 0-60 times and great gas mileage. I do wonder how leg room compares to the escape. For the car seats. And also does it ride like crap?

A Wrangler will (in your opinion) ride like crap. It is rough and tumble - it is after all an off road vehicle and not a road car. Beth gets some motion sickness as a passenger but is ok as a driver (she actually got really sick when they took it on a long road trip to look at a horse and her trainer was driving). Personally - I notice it is rougher but I kind of like it. I have never been a fan of the ultra soft smoothness though.

Space wise - dance floor for leg space.

Crap safety ratings - but for rollovers and for side impact.

The new ones ride like a charm. I thought the solid front axle would be noticeable on the Rubicon, but it was smooth. Interior is roomy except the dash is little depth and is a little closer than normal. They are all around great rigs.

I have a JL as well and I wouldn't say it rides like a charm. Go from that to let's say a Genesis SUV and the difference will be immense hah. It is physically impossible to get a solid axle and off road suspension/tires to ride like a car built for road comfort.

I’m gonna have to drive one of these E jeeps. I don’t need great ride. My escape needs new shocks and sometimes get wheel bounce, so I like it? No…but I don’t care enough to fix it right now.

So it doesn’t have to be perfect. I also don’t think it looked like a heck a lot more room than my escape for 2nd row. Who has one? What’s the back seat like?

I think I'd take a Mach-E over a Tesla. Trust Ford's build quality more and a better dealer network. When we rented a Tesla, having to stop for 45 minutes to charge wasn't a huge problem, but it was just a 300 mile drive, so we just used that time to stop to eat. Would be awful on a long trip.

Side note: At a former job we made the axle tubes for the JL Wranglers. The PHEV axle tube was the same as the Rubicon tube, but the PHEV had a 9 or 10 mm wall thickness vs 6 for the Rubicon.
