Gears or transmission

Honestly. If you were going to pick (and for me this is in the avalanche) would you pick going to 4:10 gears, or a more gear transmission?

Cost would be about the same.

I think you mean final drive ratio on your trans. In your case it would be much easier to axle gear swap…plus you could address those “lockers”.

Naw, I can swap out transmissions.

Yes the g80 being taking out is an issue to address. And also possibly front locker. But the trans is also a known weak issue with those years.

Diff gears.

Swapping to a 6L/8L would be a fucking nightmare.

Not engine. Transmission! Yes the 8L swap isn’t one to do.

Not gonna happen. But wish it could. Maybe if everything got cheaper.

I think you might be getting in over your head with a transmission swap. Just do the gears or save your money. Cars will get cheaper in the next year.

I don't know why you think the transmission is weak. Are basing that on people putting turbos on 130,000 mile cars and the boosting the hell out of them? Or towing shit way beyond what they're rated to tow?

By the time you sink enough into your Avalanche to turn it into some kind of all terrain towing monster, you'll be most of the way to a newer more capable truck anyway.

If you want transmission insurance just do a transgo shift kit upgrade. Cheaper and will give you a more robust transmission.

That's a 2 out of 10 comeback. Pretty weak :p

Let me rephrase...

Swapping to a 6L90/8L90 would be a nightmare.

Don’t they make dummy computers to control them? Well not the Allison, I wouldn’t put the Allison in mine. I would do 6l80 probably. Or one of those with the e on the end.

Not an easy swap. Looked into it before. Seriously. Better off buying a built 4l60e and putting that in.

Don’t you have a horse to go masterbate or some other way to spend your womens money? Are you contributing anything? Jason is at least.

Those are typically setup for non computer controlled cars. Usually the engine control expects some inputs from the transmission and those stand alone transmission controllers don't have the correct output.
