Make a kit, that if you wanted to be semi prepared to handle simple things on a long trip…what would you put in?

An electric impact to change a tire?
An air pump?
Jumper cables?
Jumper box?
Flairs?

I put together a cabin kit.. mostly since I am starting to not trust the CTS. I kept it simple though (a few things winter specific):

- Tools to change tire
- Battery charger (this stays at cabin)
- Jumper box
- Quick Chains
- Small shovel

Probably should add some flares and stuff.. and will add a wire cutter to cut off the chains in case I can't get them off.

Out of all the tools I own….I do not have jumper cables. Lol.

I like the quick chains as well, just something small and could be a game changer.

Good thread idea.

-factory jack and tool kit
-factory spare. inflated to recommended psi. Good to check this annually.
-2 flares
-flashing emergency hazard sign that is magnetic
-extra set of common metric sockets, end wrenches
-slip joint pliers with cutters in the inside
-small bad of zip ties
-small towel
-extra water and quart of engine oil.
-small led flashlight
-phillips and slot screwdrivers
-tire plug kit
-tire iron if not already in factory tool kit.
-first aid kit
-extra ratchet or cinch straps
-knife
-bungee cords

Thats it for now, but my Ram boxes are usually loaded with supplies.

I do a lot of road trips. These are what I carry on longer ones.

Adjustable wrench
Couple other various hand tools
Solar powered generator
Air pump
Spare and jack
Tire repair kit
Bungee cords
Tie down straps
Collapsible shovel
Flint
Toilet paper
Led flashlight
Flares
Whipes
Towels
Pillow
Blanket
Food/water
Sleeping bag (collapses really small)
Small propane tank with attachable burner
Water proof matches
Paper maps
Spare boots
Rain jacket and pants
Spare charger cables
Jumper cables
Spare sun glasses

There is probably more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. On longer trips like trips that go for a few days I'll also bring a mat to sleep on and sometimes my tent if weather is nice and I'm in remote areas.

I also have a multi tool in my vehicle, gorilla tape, tow strap, trash bag, and depending on time of year, chains and window scraper.

I just have the factory stuff for changing a tire in our Explorer. The RS doesn't even have a spare from the factory, just fix a flat.

When I used to drive the Stealth long distances, like to the NG, I'd take my full socket set, jumper cables, a real jack, jack stands, and a bag of misc tools. All the stuff to swap out basically anything Never needed it though.

Honestly this is for the Tahoe. Every year we go to NY from TN in it. So I thought a emergency bag might be helpful.

Also, why did Chevy think it smart to put the spare tire upside down so you can’t check if it’s inflated or not. Like steve said, I check that yearly as I’ve had to use it and it be flat.

It's pretty normal for undermounted spare tires

But why? What was the reasoning? I’m sure it uses less cable as the part of the wheel dish is not between the tire and body. But any other reason?

Protect the face of the wheel from damage, protect the valve stem from damage. Obviously the first is only really relevant if it's a matching spare.

I think it’s steel, I’ve only checked once but pretty sure it is.

Yeah protect the valve stem for sure. Also, if the face sticks out beyond the tire, you'd get more ground clearance by flipping it over.
