Let’s talk about CLEANEST oil change

Post by DCIV »

I’m sure everyone here can change their oil and has. But I am so tired of oil everywhere. The oil you end up keeping after a change because your to much in a rush or to tired to take it back. The oil filters. The oil on the ground.

Seriously. How do you keep your oil from being everywhere.

I clean up. But I always don’t get back to the place to dump it as soon as I wish.

i dump my oil in a 5 gallon lowes bucket with a lid and take that in. I actually have a full 5g bucket now. Also i just put a fumoto on the wifes car so should be super easy next time.

I've also got to the point where I'll gladly pay a few extra dollars for the dealership to do it.

That’s a good cheap storage idea. I have been trying to find one.

I used to have them do it on my ST, but they didn’t put some parts back on once, and damaged one of my wheels. So now on the RS and stealth I do it myself. Ashley’s Explorer goes to the dealer though.

As for storage, I have a couple 5 quart jugs I use since they seal up nice. I like Ryan’s idea though!

I enjoy my oil changes. It’s usually fairly relaxing and you get to see the health of the engine. I just need to figure out a better way to transfer the oil, after it comes out of the car, and into what. As my old system left oil leak out (yes I know not to use milk jugs but I did) and I now just finally got all that cleaned up.

I have a couple 5-gallon buckets with lids also. When they get full, then I take them to the recycling place and dump 'em in. I usually end up making a trip or two a year, so it isn't a big deal.

I don't have the time, energy or space to do it so I take the cars in. I do need to change oil in Beth's scooter though since I have been riding it a lot..

I try to do mine myself if I have time, just to avoid a 16-year-old "lube tech" screwing something up.

Yeah this is why I do my own on my RS and Stealth, since one of those lube techs screwed up and didn't put parts back on.

Here they pick up the oil for you. Put it in a milk jug and put it on the curb with recycling. They take it.
