Bored - What's Next?

Post by Chris GTO TT »

Okay I'm bored with the Baja, can't really do too much fun with an NA Subaru of its size. My parents are willing to buy out my 'investment' in it so they can keep it as their flat tow for the RV.

I've been shopping, mostly out of bordem, for a 'more tradional' fun car. I had been mostly focusing mostly on WRX/STI's mostly out of my familiarity in the platform. However trying to keep an open mind, Saturday we looked at a GTI with the DSG. I'm also looking at a used Civic SI  . I don't want to break the bank.

Criteria:
  • room for 2 carseats
  • 4 doors a plus
  • want to stay under $30k, but have considered a new STI
  • capable of being decent at Auto-X or an occasional track day
  • don't want old, beat up shit boxes that are no fun on the street

That sounds way more expensive and dangerous than the VW's I've been putting in shout.

Have the rules changed? Back when I was racing they allowed pickups but not SUVs. We had a track official with an x5m that couldn't compete but made a fun run once. That thing fucking ripped. Made no sense that it wasn't legal. Meanwhile I could run my shitbox s10 no questions.

I honestly don't know if they would let it run at autox. Track days are more about what the organization or track allows. I've seen TrackHawks and other high performance SUVs on the track.

1st gen raptor starts at 35k with 100k miles on it. 2nd gen is like 45k min.

Good luck. I talked some about this in my thread. Kia stinger, some BMW’s, maybe an Audi or merc….but there are very few 4 door fun cars in that price range.

Honestly if there was a 4 door gtr equivalent than I would prob have it right now as well. There just arnt good options.

2015 or newer 5.0 Mustang. You can definitely get 2 car seats in the back.

And his budget is really high 30s to mid 40s if he’s considering a new STi ;)

Might be a bit of a stretch to get the seats in and still use the front seats.

Also new budget is a bit higher simply because you can get better rates on most new cars than used.
