The wife wants a Tahoe

Post by DCIV »

I’m not getting away from this, the wife wants a Tahoe and prob gonna want a brand new one but I would like to try and find a couple yr old one. Minus the cyl Deactivation what do I need to look for? 6 speed/8 speed? Stand alone cooler? Anyone help me on this as We will prob be spending mid 50’s by the time it’s all said and done and it’s got me worried. I have a couple months though.

They just redesigned it for 2021, so there's probably still some good deals on leftover 2020s.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Apparently the 0% is gone too. Wonder if they will bring that back for Xmas. Any idea if they tell us before hand?

Hell if I know. They could bring it back next week if their sales get too soft.

So they don’t have any real history of doing that at certain times of the year? Or known to hint at it. That sucks.

A new Tahoe. That is a big vehicle and big payment. Planning on having lots of kids? There are lots of really nice SUV's with plenty of room and about the same tech in the sub $20k range right now.

Oh how I agree with you. We plan on one more kid and that’s it. It’s a status thing for her and nothing else. Doesn’t matter the vehicles I show her, it always comes back to the Tahoe. Or a Land Rover but talk about a worst investment.

Tahoe over LR all day, any day.

If she wants status, why not get a lightly used Cayenne Turbo? :D

Has she driven a big truck like that before? My wife liked the idea of big truck/SUV until she drove them. Thats why we got the MDX. Bigger than a car, more nimble, and faster than a Tahoe. That and it seats 7.

F the Land Rover too. Both of those will depreciate badly, LR more so.

Go put her in some lightly used Japanese SUV's. Lots of good ones out there and at a great price.

I agree Tahoe over LR. She prob wouldn’t get the cayenne for the same reason as the LR, or at least the reason I talked her out of, when there are problems...there is no dealership near.

Before we do buy we will be driving a lot of vehicles. Lexus makes a nice suv and we a Toyota dealership. Same with higher end cars. But she is pretty set on a Tahoe and she does not love her edge after she loved her 2 door accord. So I hear it almost daily.

But more info I have or can find out about the Tahoe between now and then would be helpful.

She grew up with an avalanche she drove, she’s driving an edge. The new Tahoe’s I think turn better than her edge honestly and that was a body style ago.

Hah luckily Beth is off trying to push a Tahoe on me. I can't stand how they drive.. and they are HUGE to park or navigate around narrow streets in a city. She has told me I am free to get whatever I want once I decide to take on a car payment again (no car payment is NICE).

That said, her lease is up this fall and she is looking at a BMW convertible or a LR herself haha.

No payment is why I bought the older truck. Wish wife would have turned in the kia and drove the jeep to save that payment too, but I get it.

The payment is the only thing saving me right now. Her edge trade in is like 15ish. We owe around 8k. So the difference gets us in high 500’s low 600’s. We pay 288 right now. So you are looking at doubling our payment. Granted she got a new high paying job but I had to give up my second job which kept us about the same money wise. Add into that we have her student loans coming in December (which we might just pay off in full) to the tune of another 300 a month. Basically she knows we can’t do all of it at once. But even if we just pay off the student loans the extra 300 a month car payment will take a little life style adjusting too.

So no, I don’t want any of this so I gotta be as smart and try and get the best deal we can at the best time.

A Tahoe is a status symbol? I think you meant Escalade.

You are dealing with a different generation. Escalade is an older person status symbol. Tahoe says Ive got my shit together and got a nice ride. Escalade says I’m old, rob me.

At least that I can gather.

Around here the younger generation goes into debt rolling around in Escalades to show off. Something about hip-hop rapper thug BS I guess. Maybe that's over and it just hasn't left around here yet.

You don't live in the south. I see the same thing here in Richmond - Tahoes are definitely considered that you've made it.

I'd look at an Expedition too I honestly feel like they drive better and their fold flat 3rd row is huge for hauling things in the cargo area. The 3rd row is also a lot roomier, you can actually put an adult back there and they won't want to kill you for it.

Tahoe XL gets you on par. Though the Expedition EL gets you more I think. There are Tahoe’s everywhere here in Arkansas.
