The dirty got a DD

Acquired a new shitbox. Need to pull mom's engine and suspension for a reseal/bushings. Need a backup while her car is down so I grabbed another one.
02 6 speed. Had a bad misfire so I talked him down to about half of asking. Got a bunch of deferred maintenance taken care of yesterday. Misfire was a cracked spark plug.
Kid had done a muffler and resonator delete with muffler clamps and wire. That went in the scrap bin and now has a 2.5" stainless system with v-bands and borla muffler. Deep mellow tone that you can still hold a conversation while at full throttle.
It is exactly identical to my mom's Maxima but 2 years newer. Silver on gray cloth, manual, no Bose.

Wheelin and dealing. Those are easy fixes and right up your alley. Nice work.
You a big Maxima fan?

Didn’t his name use to be maximum or something like that?
I was expecting something newer but really cars are not great investments. They are a step above boats. Lol.

Yep. These cars are kinda rock bottom at about 2k if it runs and drives.
The only thing left if a converter code and I plan on going with 3.0 manifolds to ditch the precats and work some magic on the y-pipe. Should be good increase. the 3.5 or Cali spec manifolds are terrible for flow.
I kinda like them. Make great power, smooth and comfortable, dirt cheap.

The manifolds a direct bolt on affair? Converter code? Thought it was a 6 speed?
Is this one going to need a reseal and suspension update in the near future as well?

Manifolds and fed spec 00 y-pipe is direct bolt on but the pipe is very restrictive. Upgraded y pipe is typically good for about 15hp on the 222hp 3.0 this is rated at 255.
Cat converter code. Probably due to the cracked spark plug and the fact that he had been driving it around for who knows how long with the misfire.
As for the reseal on this one... Nope. Mom's car has a rear main seal leak. I did valve cover gaskets a few months ago. The front control arm bushings are a very common failure item in these so I have poly bushings to put in. I'll be doing them to this one when hers is done.
As for suspension? Yeah it's still all original with 160k. It's not shot but mom's definitely rides better with new struts. I'll be doing them at some point. I'll probably be into this car for about 3200 when it's all done.

Not bad having over 250 hp and smooth ride for $3k.

I'll report back after I finish them both but my initial impression is the 3.0/5 is a better driver just for general commuting. Shifter feels better, engine is smoother and more refined feeling.
This car is definitely faster but the cable shift control is more sloppy than the rod linkage on the 5 speed. I do plan on doing poly bushings to see if it helps. The creature comforts are a nice improvement (wiper control upgrades, steering wheel controls, HIDs)

That's just part of the charm of the 3.5, my parents M35 has the same grittiness, and lack of refinement. Mine had steering wheel controls, and the fancy wiper controls.

Fck... Really?
Maybe there is hope after all that I can swap them into my mom's. I planned on putting all the cool stuff in hers but kinda gave up

Yeah I'm almost positive it did. I know it had intermittent adjustable wipers, low and high.

Yeah can confirm radio controls and the stalk for the wiper has a twist for the intermittent speed...

Yeah she has that but the 02 has a mist function. Lift for a quick swipe.
No radio controls on hers though

That's mom's house. My garbage is at my place buried in the back yard. As for this pic the Lincoln replaced my first vr4 after it got rear-ended. It's gotta go. The focus was a freebie from a buddy. Needs a clutch then I'm giving it away to someone in need.
And no it's really not me. Parents bought a 94 v6 d21 back in 97 and fell in love with them. Mom bought a 95 4x4 back in 08 or so. Shipped it home when she went back. 2 weeks or so later it got stolen. It took roughly 6 years to find another one in similar condition. Mint. Also v6, 4x, 5 speed.
Parents bought the 00 Max back in late 00 (maybe a month or so before I picked up my first vr4 that introduced me to all you degenerates). I think it was a lease return.
I may have been an influence on the Maxima as I worked at the dealer it was at. They were looking for a car, wanted manual and HP. Looked at a Camry v6 with a manual but said it felt cheap. Drove the Nissan and took it home an hour later. I think it was just under 20k with about 12k miles
