So I’ve been trying to read what you want most as far as drivetrain for snow but lot of it is Jeep owners who are all too bad ass to use their lockers.

So I get when they are locked you can’t really turn but if your in deep snow anyways and going slow then I would think it’s better than open. But maybe I’m wrong. What about the front? Limited slip? What’s factory? For the avalanche for front? I just read about the rear?

Honestly in deep snow, from what I know triple locked will just get you more stuck after bandaiding some bad driving. Buy a set of Goodyear Duratrac tires, then if you start to struggle get a rear locker. Front lock is mostly just for rock crawling.

Triple locked? Front/center/rear? Do they make an lsd that I can lock if I needed it?

I swear the more I read the more confused I get. Like in real snow, going slow why wouldn’t you want a locker?

Yes front center and rear.

I'm no off road expert, nor a deep snow expert, but you tend to dig in in deep snow. From what I've heard when you're locked front and rear it will just dig you deeper faster. When you're running in deep snow momentum is you're greatest weapon.

Not entirely sure on this, but I think our Avalanche should have an LSD rear diff, a clutch-actuated locked center diff (auto locked by detected slippage in "auto" mode, and always "locked" in "4x4" mode), and it feels like the front is probably an open diff.

We've had some deep fresh snow around here basically all through January and part of February and in auto mode I've been able to drive around with no issues at all. I did put it n 4x4 low to drive through the yard in about a foot of snow to hook up my car trailer to rescue my nephew's big Silverado 2500HD with zero issues. I still have the original stock tires on it.

And yes, my Avalanche towed his big fucking truck on my car trailer (that was riding WAY low) with no trouble at all on snow and ice covered roads. The whole way home my nephew was in awe that my "little truck" could pull so easily. If you put snow tires on it, you'd have to be doing something fairly stupid to get it stuck, or you get a hell of a lot more snow than we get in Wisconsin to the point where you are hanging it up on the frame or plowing snow with the front lip.

You don’t need a front locker or lsd. That’s more hard core driving. Almost no vehicles come with them as they are extremely dangerous on roads. If you are accelerating and a load is on your front drivetrain you will “push” in turns as they search for traction. As in slide off a road. Extreme 4x4 they are great especially as you are driving much slower and the terrain is much more technical.

Ditch the front traction device. And focus on either a rear lsd or locker. They too can be problematic if you don’t know how to adjust for them on roads. Just learn the benefits of each.

Good tires can help a lot as well. I actually have the Goodyear Duratracks on my work truck and love them. Had them on my other work truck too. Excellent traction, lugging and road noise characteristics. Almost as quiet as a street tire. They are amazing.

Rear locker, good tires, 4wd, ground clearance, recovery points. Anything else would be for serious off roading.

My buddy had a Montero Sport with good tires and the rear air locker. It was 2WD too. There was nothing that it got stuck in, and they didn't plow the roads at all in Wichita. We even took it up some snow and ice piles in parking lots, no problem.

Yeah, I want to see some pictures of this driveway that won't allow a car on a trailer. It had better look WAY worse than mine.

Well when your building a house and even the people who do stuff for a living with their trailer will not use it then I promise it’s bad. The main issue is not the steep part of the driveway, it’s mine turns off that into a very sharp and short driveway. I’ve bottomed our the Yukon on the concrete it’s such a steep change, I 3 wheel the Humvee because of this, and so anything very long has a really hard time. A trailer just is NOT in the cards.

It’s steep enough it’s got deep slits in it for just wet traction.

And you see the small area to turn into my house is just as steep and thus a trailer connected to a vehicle doesn’t work.

How Coops home isnt sliding off into the lake...I dont know.

Right? It makes me nervous just looking at those pictures.

I'd personally never build on a slope that steep because of erosion and slide potential.
