Battery tie down

I don’t really like my battery tie down. Never have. It still moves, it’s like the holes in the body don’t really keep it still. I am wanting to hit the track this year and know I need something else.

Suggestions?

Hmmmm. Even the duck tape wouldn’t really fix it. It’s like the hole size is to big in the body and so even tighten down it can still shift as both sides have too much room. So I either need to get bigger bolts or some sort of sandwich plate. I was just looking for options.

What battery do you have in there? I just have an AGM battery (X2 Power) and with the stock bracket tightened down that thing isn't going anywhere. Is the bottom tray rusted or something? I think you can still get those parts new from the dealer.

It’s a rear mounted regular sized battery. Also somehow I lost the lid.

Ahhhh, OK - that makes sense then!

Guessing it is in a box? Is there a strap attached to the box that goes over the top of the battery, or what are you using now? Some sort of a flat mounting plate that's bolted to the trunk floor is probably necessary if you want it "solid".

The kit came with a strap, I never used it. The cables didn’t line up just right so the lid didn’t sit nice in the top. Guess that’s why I lost it.

Yeah it’s just two bolts through the floor, prob a small washer and nut on the bottom side. Small metal cross bracket holding down the battery.

Think a metal plate that is screwed to the floor be secure enough to try and remount it? Or do I need bolts through the floor type of deal?

I haven't done a rear battery on these cars, but I helped a friend with an Eclipse do it. We used a piece of 1/8" aluminum plate under the box to give it a solid mount, carriage bolts through the box, plate and the floor, large washers underneath to spread out the attachment stress, lockwashers, nuts. Then you need to secure the battery itself to the box somehow. The strap can work there, or else weld some nuts onto the plate and use threaded rod in the nuts up to a cross brace over the top of the battery.

All depends on how solid you want it mounted, though it should be pretty solid to keep a 50+ lb battery from flying around in case of a collision.
