Mighty Steve picks up a new... Z06!!!

I wasnt planning on it but with all the trigger pulling around here I had to act fast and get one of my own!
Ok in all seriousness Ive actually been trying to hold out for a gen 1 2 door or a gen 2.5 monti but this 91 Dodge Power Ram 50 4x4 V6 popped up too close to home. Didnt help that she came with most all of the rare options (bucket seats, center console, clock, tach cluster, cloth door cards, sliding rear window, blue paint, Limited slip, etc. Not to mention she has been well preserved.
Now Ive got to figure out what I want to do next with that 6G72 powerplant. Another 3.8 MIVEC build, or a Twin Turbo project...?

That thing is clean.
My vote is for a lightly boosted, non-MIVEC 3.8 out of an Endeavor.

Supercharge or single it, since it doesn't have to have exhaust over the trans like a 3/s, it would be cool to single turbo it!

There's plenty of room in the engine bay for a nice single, but you'd have to route the driver's side exhaust under the engine and back up the passenger's side to the turbo. There's not enough room for a pipe between the back of the block and the firewall. If you wanted to run it across the front, you'd have to add a ton of heat shielding to keep the radiator hoses from cooking.
A supercharger would be a fun change.

I didn't realize how easy super chargers were to mount until a local messed one up by changing the belt and then not tightening it and it getting into the timing.
Would be pretty easy, clean, and give you the power band you want out of a truck.

Thanks guys. She is in pretty good condition. I think the truck was spoiled until the last owner had it. Ill get into those details later but he did her no favors.
I was wanting to TT it but I might entertain a supercharger or single turbo. Cant say I know of any worthwhile super chargers off hand. Recommendations? The single turbo would be a fun challenge...
I currently have two good motors in my back yard. 01 6g74 our of my montero and a 1st gen TT with 100k miles I puked from a yard a few years back. Guaranteed slapped valves on one head at least due to vatozone water pump. Otherwise there is another 07 mivec in my local mitsu yard for $750.
The original sohc 6g72 in the truck runs strong for now but she is leaking quite a bit of oil. Location of origin is tbd.

Also how many miles would you guess she has?

Wide ass DOHC engines are going to complicate your turbo options. Go with an SOHC junkyard motor and don't waste your time with another MIVEC setup. That money can be better spent on the boost hardware.

I dont recall the TT heads being any wider than the MIVEC ones. Problem with the sohc engines is that the rods are super weak. The TT would be the best option for boost. Then again its a first gen so cast crank. That limits me to roughly 500hp.

Only 500hp? Lol all our cars combined don't have that much HP

For all the money put into the turbo or turbos necessary to make this truck fun I might as well make some decent hp.

I get that to an extent lol
In my small brain anything north of 300 would be excessive for as light as that tuck is.

DOHC is roughly 3 inches wider. I just measured.

The mighty max should have around 300hp which is fun but the turbo itch to go higher is still there.

So 1.5 inches wider off each end?

More or less. Maybe it's just an illusion that the DOHC Montero engine fills up more of the engine bay than the SOHC. :d ontknow:

Yea, Ive got some thinking to do. Probably wont tackle another swap until spring. Until then I can just enjoy the truck and fix some of the things that the last owner did to her.

Last update didnt work.
Couple more pictures of the truck:
Now for some of the ugly. Guy installed an aftermarket radiator with a cheap electric fan that he wired to a switch under the dash. Because the fan isnt oem the lower hose crosses right in front of the AC pump. He pulled the belt, so no ac. Not to mention he wired in the AC to run off another switch (when i was running). There is a goofy ass horn he also wired and a bunch of other things you can see running around in the bay. Oh and dont forget the aftermarket coil.
The interior. Aside from the flaming pedals, trucker horn button, back support, and worthless gauge pod that were installed, the truck is in pretty good shape. I really like this interior.

That thing is clean. It shouldn't take much to fix it up the rest of the way.
I've got those same seats in my truck. Grabbed them out of a Macro Cab. They're actually pretty comfortable for what they are. I wish there was a way to get new foam and covers for them. I'd probably keep them if I could replace the damaged parts.
What's that thing just to the left of the radiator cap? Some kind of overflow tank? Looks like I see an aftermarket cruise control stalk on the column too.
