Chevy Colorado Diesel?!?

Post by Monochrome »

http://blog.caranddriver.com/2016-chevr ... confirmed/

Damn it... After the bail out I said I would never buy a GM vehicle every again. Now they're the one who released the truck I've always wanted. Mid-size, turbo 4cyl diesel, Apple interface, capable of towing the Exocet in an enclosed trailer and still gets upper 20s mpg...

Common Toyota, give us the Hylux!!!

2020 GMC Sierra Elevation Duramax
2014 Exomotive Exocet - #101 "shocker yellow" - sold :(

That Triton has a face only a mother could love...

They did. It was called the 4Runner.

If you want a diesel, look into importing an older one. Other than things like the Colorado which were already too far along in development to stop, I doubt we'll see any more passenger car and truck diesels thanks to VW's bullshit.

Build your own. Import a 4m41 and slap that into the 10 year old truck of your choice

Or just do like a sane person would do and buy an older Chevy or Ford full size diesel. They're about the same size as a new Colorado anyway. You won't find any modern truck that's even close to the size of the old compact pickups like the S10 and Mighty Max.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Edit: You ever owned or know someone who owns one? If so, ask them how much they have into it. Then ask them what the gas mileage is.

In the long run, this new truck (assuming it's not shit) would be much cheaper to own. Especially for what I will need it for.

This is ~$16k.

A new Colorado diesel is ~$40k.

How long of a run are we talking here? Because $24,000 will buy a LOT of maintenance. I'm betting the Silverado is a more capable truck too.

Ding ding ding! And the older diesels are proven to get shit done.

These new diesels (the titan and colorado) need to be guinea-pigged by people with sizeable disposable incomes first.

I remeber my first pick up. It was a Isuzu pup. It had an option for a diesel. I know many vw's had small trucks that had a diesel option. In my opinion the trucks now days are all HUGE. We had a small car movement, we need to get some of those small trucks back. With the diesel option. Also I still want a diesel hybrid. Why the flip will no one make a diesel hybrid around here (aka in America).

But yeah, the old diesels were a bitch to maintain.

If you want 20 mpg then get an older F250 that is not turbocharged. 1990 was an awesome model year. 7.3L International motor that runs forever. Plenty of aftermarket support too.

Where am i going to park that monster.....?

That thing gets 17mpg at best. The new truck is rated close to 30.

Yeah, and the oil catcher always says runs great. That may be the only one I would get. But why can't I take that engine and trans and have it in a f-150 swb?

No kidding  He complains about maintenance and then says he wants a brand new truck that costs over 2x what a good used one would, and it's also totally unproven as far as reliability goes.

I dunno. Where do you park your RX7, Exocet, Mazda, Fiesta, donor Miata, work in progress Catfish, and whatever else is in your fleet right now? The Silverado is what....maybe a foot longer than the Colorado? That's your big parking concern?

He's building one of these.

Exomotive Catfish. It's basically an Exocet with a nicer body.

It's a cross between a bmw z8 and evo. Interesting.

Common, you know me better than that....

You keep overlooking the gas mileage argument plus the added luxuries that come with a new vehicle. Like a warranty...

Maybe you're not familiar with big city life but you can't poke fun of the idea that driving a huge monster truck in that environment as being a bad idea. Now add to that a 18ft enclosed trailer....

...and yes I could always just drive the car instead of hauling it given the weather conditions permit it.

Hell, I'm not even sold on the truck as its a GM. I would rather we get the Toyota with the 30 year old proven 4 cyl diesel they have been selling world wide for years.

The 99 sold a little over a year ago. Someone offered me a large enough amount of $$ that I caved.
