got a challenge for ya.. im car shopping

Hey everyone,
I've got a friend looking for a car.
The max she can spend is 5k.
She wants one of the following:
Mazda rx-7
Mitsu lancer or lancer evo ( I have no idea if there is a difference.. don't shoot the messenger)
Mitsu eclipse
Subaru imprezza.. or however you spell it.

I know you guys are better at searching than I am. May the swartz be with you.

with that amount of cash she can afford a 1990 rx-7 non turbo or a 95 turbo eclipse with high mileage, or a 95 impreza. good luck

You can get a decent 87-92 RX7 for 5k, but I hope your friend is a mechanic...or is on really good terms with one

The Lancer is a basic econo-box. Very little performance to speak of. You could probably find one for 5k

The Lancer Evolution is a turbocharged, all-wheel drive high performance car that was transformed from it's humble econo-roots by the evil Dr Mitsu Frankenstein-san. The only Evo you'll find for 5k will have been wrapped around a tree.

Mitsu eclipse
Lots of Eclipses (or Eagle Talons or Plymouth Lasers) for 5k. Depends on what you want out of it, and how much work you want to put into it. Also has optional AWD...good for snow.

Subaru imprezza.. or however you spell it.
Some older Imprezzas are in this price range. I actually wanted one before I got my Focus. I think it's highly unlikely she'll find one of the newer turbocharged ones for that price. If she's in MI, the AWD will be a godsend for our winters.


It'd really help to know what your friend wants out of a car. Performance? Reliability? Cheap maintenance and good fuel economy? Tell us more...

this car would be a daily driver and she doesn't have money to do any mods or upgrades... she doesn'r race.. i don't know if that helps. its a little early for me to give her a call but I can call her later if you want to know more.

240sx's aren't bad.. however the only cars she wants are one of the ones listed above.
