Fried ECU??

So for the past week... my car has just been getting worse and worse...

Whenever I hit boost... my car bucks like crazy and almost stalls on me... It also sometimes gets stuck around 2000-3000 rpms when idling....

I have had these same issues in the past with a bad IAC on a different car.... But I've been told that it is common for 1st gen ecu's to fry, and that it is most likely already fried....

Anyone had this same issue or any suggestions for diagnosis??

Pull the ECU, take the cover off, and see if the caps are leaking. There will be black goo around them if they are...and it'll smell like something rotten.

Karla,

If not your ECU, I'd check your plugs and wires for arcing. How about an old fuel filter? I'm assuming with Ryan around, more shit is broken than actually fixed :D

yyyeeeeuuupp, haha

But yeah.... I don't have NGK plugs... probably Bosch for all I know.. the shittiest plugs on the planet, haha

I had kind of suspected that my IAC was going bad... so I may clean that out when I get home... ahhh, I'm starting to hate cars, hahaa

Have Ryan test your battery voltage with a meter while the car running. Report back with a number.

Looks like I'll be bringing my spare alternator to the BAWC gathering. Your studdering/high idle & random CE lights should stop once everything gets proper voltage again.

When she is messing up check for spark. Easiest way is by using a timing light.

Best way to check if it is the ECU, plug it into a another car and see if that car behaves the same way.

I had similar problems prior to everything going to shit when my ECU fried.
