Its an electromagnetic clutch pack, but yeah. It can vary between 0 and 100% locked.

Clutch-based torque distribution. If the rears slip it automatically sends power up front, but still allows some slip in the middle when turning on dry ground. My 4 HI and 4 LO will be locked clutches instead of a dog gear now.

Makes it easier to go between slick and dry surfaces without experiencing driveline binding. Should make the truck a lot more flexible in everything from light rain to full on winter, at the sacrifice of some off road capability I was never going to use anyway.

The Raptor transfer case actually has both the clutch system and a physical 4WD lock, but those are a lot more expensive and I would have had to modify the driveshaft because the case is longer.

Yeah not only that it's hard to do unless you get an aftermarket bed since the raptor only came with a 5.5ft bed

There's a company that makes fiberglass sides for my bed. But installation, paint, suspension....yeah, nah.

Honestly those parts are pretty easy to do, especially on something like this that's already been figured out and well documented.

Control module under the passenger's side carpet. Knob on the dash. The dash is still missing half its screws (intentionally) from the last time I had it apart. Single byte change in AsBuilt. Easy.

I was originally against it because I thought I'd have to run new wires for the clutch circuit. But it's all there. My original transfer case has a clutch for reasons I don't understand. I think it's just there so you don't need to put the transmission in neutral to shift it.

Great success :D

I woke up an hour and a half before my alarm today, and decided I was already out of fucks to give. Since I have a ton of PTO and nothing was going on, I took a me day and wrapped up the truck.

Seems to work great so far. No weird noises or behavior.

This system is pretty interesting. There was a long thread on the F150 forum where the usual suspects were talking about how worthless this was because it's not real four wheel drive all while they were ignoring the fact that its not meant to be. Some people were talking about how it needed to sense wheel slip before it engaged the fronts. Unless the dash is lying to me, that's not true. It's 82 degrees, sunny, absolutely bone dry roads. Just touching the gas to maintain speed at 40 mph shows an active torque split. Not a lot, but the front does light up. I was in it a bit harder in the picture above. That's probably 70/30?

I punched it making a 90* right hander out of the grocery store by the house, and the rears chirped just slightly before it hooked and went. In normal 2WD that'd be instant traction control engagement.

I'm really hoping we get the rain they're talking about tomorrow night. :lol:

I still haven't renewed my Forscan license. They're Russian, so they're having to get creative and do payments through 3rd parties. I just did the AsBuilt change manually. :lol:

Read the current value with 22 DE0C to make sure we're in the right place.
Write the new value with 2E DE0C.
Read it back with 22 DE0C again to make sure the change stuck.

Awesome. Yeah it's much more of an active system than it gets credited for. In my old truck I could just stab the throttle in the rain and it'd barely slip the rears. The biggest problem with the setup is it's apparently possible to wear out the clutches and lose 4hi all together.

Gas was included in my test drive route. :lol: Even stopped to get it washed.

I'm not too worried about the clutches. My goal is to keep it in 2WD unless conditions necessitate otherwise. Not that I ever want to pull it out again, but at least it seems like you can get parts to rebuild it.

Yeah I did the same thing. I also tried to kick it into 4A every few months just to make sure everything is working.

That’s similar to how the AWD system behaves in the Explorer, in terms of full time power distribution. Just opposite since it’s FWD based. Seems like 4A in he F150 is more towards the AWD side of things rather than automatically engaging 4H when needed.

We got some decent rain yesterday, so I was finally able to test the new setup out. I'm pretty happy with it. I purposely did some dumb stuff and the system handled it nicely. It's interesting that it cuts out above 60 though. I guess if traction is that big of a problem you shouldn't be driving that fast anyway.
