Yea dont touch the fronts. Just replace as needed. You will likely replace the fronts 2 or 3 times before doing the rears.

FedEX guy: Gonna back my big ass truck up in this guy's driveway to drop off some brake rotors.

UPS guy: I'll just casually carry this single 116 lb crate up here.

It's an auto-4WD transfer case. Got it on eBay with 60k miles. My truck has 62k. It's basically a clutch-based 2WD/on-demand-AWD/4WD system.

Has anyone got any good suggestions for how to get this thing in the truck without help?

Image

It's about 90 lbs. I've got a Harbor Freight transmission jack that I think I'm going to use, but it's still going to be a pain in the ass to get it angled and clocked correctly. It sits in the truck at roughly a 45 degree angle. This is the current TC.

I started to measure out a bracket, but I really don't want to put that much effort into something I'm going to use once. I'm not sure how much it would help anyway.

Worst case I can call my nephew, but he works on weekends so scheduling is difficult.

If I was closer I'd offer my assistance. Maybe build a temp brace out of wood? Enough to support it at the right angle while you jack it up?

Thanks. I really appreciate that. :)

I've got some scrap metal and a bunch of 2x4 cutoffs I can try. I might also try to use the mount that connects to the cross brace. It's that rusty part near the H3AC label. If I can brace off that and the area near the drain plug it might not be that bad.

Fun fact. The bolts that hold the transfer case to the transmission are aluminum. Had to buy a couple bags of those because they're marked one time use. Dunno why since they're not torque-to-yield, but whatever. They were cheap enough.

Call the UPS guy to lift it into place?

But seriously, I’d bet some 2x4 scraps to take up space and some ratchet straps to hold it to the transmission jack and it’ll be pretty easy.

When you thinking about tackling it? KC is only 3 hours away…

Aluminum bolts? I mean that’s cool…but what?

I think just a jack under it like most would a 3/s would be your best bet.
