Time to get FIT...Honda Style

Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
Made a trip to the bay this weekend to see some friends. I really wanted to test out this car as I'm all new to CVT transmissions and this car in general. My biggest fear is how well it would climb the Sierras doing 70 mph as well as overall comfort on a long Interstate drive.
To my surprise it performed well. The CVT held the hills better than an auto and just had some different sounds coming from the motor as it adjusted for speed loss. Now did it downshift hard and pick up speed to pass on a climb. No way. It takes a little more time to spool up and move. Otherwise on the flat it did great for quick passes.
I was able to hold 70 mph on climbs and pulled 42.9 mpg driving to the bay. On the return trip (with more climbing) i got 38.8 mpg.

Don't get me wrong, a cvt is not fun and can ruin experiences for car people. But for 99% of the population they are perfectly acceptable and I don't get all the hate.

Exactly. CVTs in cars are "the worst thing ever", but CVTs in ATVs, Snowmobiles, etc. are perfectly acceptable...Duck Vader wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 1:30 am Don't get me wrong, a cvt is not fun and can ruin experiences for car people. The whole point of CVTs is to keep the engine in it's power band and efficiency range as much as possible. Good for MPG and the normal person, but not fun to drive.

It's just like the old healthcare thing. People hate ObamaCare but love the ACA.
Any time you even suggest something is slightly eco-friendly or more efficient, some people just knee jerk hate it because it goes against the grain of their social narrative.

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Yea its not a bad experience at all. Driving a CVT vs conventional auto takes some getting used to. Its not as sporty or responsive, but its efficient.
Now you also need to stay on top of your scheduled maintenance if you want them to last. Every 30-40k fluid swap on this trans.

I don't love the cvt in our outback but I don't hate it either. The biggest issue I have with the outback is the throttle mapping is very jumpy.
Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
Mine can get that way if you aren't careful with the throttle. Its not too bad though.

New plates came in. Kickback to the states 80's plates! They aren't even vanity plates either. And somehow they are less than the standard plate. Go figure!

Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
Also took the car on a quick trip to the Bay. Got 45.9 mpg driving over Sierras to Sacramento. It tapered off after that.

So I was driving my parents' 2015 Honda Jazz for the last two weeks. 1.3 liter CVT.. damn that thing was dangerously slow hah. Definitely had to plan out accelerations far more! Had to majorly reconfigure my brain last night when we got back and I got in the truck which was hard after barely sleeping for 48 hours haha. Definitely couldn't literally push the pedal to the floor in it like I did in the Jazz.
Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
Oh they got the even smaller motor. All US market Fits are 1.5L in 2015. I think mine has 30 more HP (101 vs 130hp) which would probably feel significant. LOL!alienviking wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 8:51 pm So I was driving my parents' 2015 Honda Jazz for the last two weeks. 1.3 liter CVT.. damn that thing was dangerously slow hah. Decided to tackle to super basic rear view mirror. Those should be outlawed. I robbed a 10 year old Nissan of its auto dimming/compass/homelink setup. The PITA was wiring ACC to the roof. Honda uses super thin wiring in these cars. Like floss your teeth thin. Ended up running a wire all the way back to the fuse box and found and unused ACC circuit, so i wedged the wire on the far side of the fuse, so its...fused now.
Only problem is i cant get it to work with my newer (2014 installed) garage door. I believe mine is "rolling code" but none of the program methods seem to be working.

There's an adapter for the older homelinks to work with the newer garage door security codes
Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
You know ive seen that, but i thought it was the other way around. Either way i thought this was part of the same generation. I dunno.

Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
Tested out FITment of an E-bike in the back with the "Magic Seats". It FIT!

Re: Time to get FIT...Honda Style
Also took a few minutes to swap out the Halogens for LED's that i picked up on Amazon Prime day. Instant difference in overall output.
