i didnt put a new one on, i was debating but didnt want to spend the money. It was a cheap one though, and i tensioned it too tight.

That's a tensile break, and is a direct result of over tensioning the belt.

yeah, happened during a hard 2-3 shift, so im assuming when i tried to get back on the power and clutched out it was just like fuck this shit im out.

Yeah, also because a used belt should be tensioned less than a new belt as well, so it was probably severely over tensioned.

It only had a few thousand miles on it, so i figured it would be good. Plus i spend a few hundred on the top and door cards, so i was trying to be cheap.

How'd you over tension the belt? It's just a spring and then tighten the bolt holding the pulley in place.

He put additional pressure on the spring

It looked loosey goosey, didnt think about the fact that it really only needs to be tight on the exhaust cam side.

It was just replaced less than 5k miles ago along with the water pump and some other things.

Honestly, the belt would have been fine if he weren't retarded.

It would have been just fine had been not put extra tension on the belt... Hell I'm putting my 5k old timing belt back on, but I am not putting any extra pressure on it than the spring does.

miata runs again, now do i use tomorrow to install the projectors and HIDs or do i work on the forester...
