GMs idea of a special edition is usually stickers and maybe a special paint color. They're not usually the type to let a group spend billions of dollars just to show off.

Also maybe GM is thinking about going towards a DOHC architecture with the next version of their V8 (let's call it a Gen VI), and they are using the C8 as the first vehicle. Who knows, maybe they plan to put a DOHC V8 into their trucks for the next design cycle.

The trucks are going to smaller engines and hybrid or full electric. Who ever thought you'd be able to buy a 4-cylinder Silverado and have it not be terrible? See also: Hummer EV.
They're not going to use a torqueless flat plane that revs to nine grand in a truck.
Then again, maybe someone just likes pissing away money on niche engines that never go anywhere. See also: Cadillac Blackwing.

Not even sure why the Blackwing exists. That's a really poor investment on GM's part. If it can't be repurposed anywhere else, why do it?

There were rumors it was going to go in the Escalade and I think the CT4/5, but that didn't happen. Everyone thought it was going to end up in the C8 and that didn't happen either. So yeah, I don't know what the hell happened there.
They just can't seem to figure out what they're doing with Cadillac as a whole. If it's not a truck or SUV they just seem to go all derpy.

Probably the only way they can stay compliant with the next gas mileage laws.

Check engine light?

Compass, fuel range, theftlock error, some other warnings... Nothing I'd consider unusual on a development car.

Yup, when I did my internship at Contitech back in 2006 in the vehicle test group, all the vehicles we test drove for the most part had warning lights on in the cluster, completely normal occurrence.

Finally saw a brand new vette. It was that brighter blue. I have to say I loved it. It looked like a freaking fighter jet.

They do look better in person than in the photos, IMO.

I never followed the Corvette racing program. Seems a shame though that it appears to be in decline now.
