I think Matt had asked about possible downsides to the track-use DCT fluid level. Sounds like it's just a tiny fuel economy penalty.

The good news is that we don't recommend that you remove the excess oil when you head back to the street. There is no harm other than the small fuel economy penalty.

I don't think I'd pull all that apart just to put in some extra fluid - but if I was back there already doing something else, I probably would add the additional fluid.

Probably didn't show up in testing because test engineers and a test drivers are mindful to not hit buttons on the fob, or trunk releases while driving :d ontknow:

I've hit the hatch release on my car several times when getting in or out. I've got long legs, so sometimes my knee hits the button. At least on the C7 there's a warning on the display that the hatch is open, so I've never been driving around with it unlatched.

Sounds like there's some sort of software bug that doesn't display the warnings. The frunk also should not be able to be opened under any condition while the car is moving, so I'm surprised they didn't have the fob button and interior button disabled on motion already.

Who knows... Seems like an easy fix though, as long as there isn't some defective latching hardware.

I'll believe it when I see it. The rumors about this car are more plentiful than the actual cars right now.

Hmm, if they can get 365 ft/lbs out of it at 9000 RPM, that's 625 HP. Might be about right.

Although I'm not sure I want a Corvette that revs to the moon. For street driving torque is better than high RPM power. I think I'm still good on the Stingray and then down the road maybe give it a little forced induction if someone cracks the tuning puzzle.

If this is true, then I'm more confused than ever. What exactly are they trying to do with this car? They've taken almost 70 years of heritage and refinement and thrown it out the window to do what? Build a wanna-be Ferrari? I don't even see how it could be used to lay the groundwork for spreading the technology to future cars. GM has said they're transitioning to an all-electric lineup, and they've even gone so far as to reassign several members of the Corvette team to their electric and autonomous programs.

What is the point of this car?

Kind of like when they redesign the front and rear of a 99 vr4 only to cancel it?

Eh, that was just a styling upgrade. It was still mostly the same car they introduced in 1990.

They still made GTOs in Japan in 2000, didn't they?

But yeah - I think the flat plane motor in the Corvette is taking it too far from its heritage. I would've rather seen a 700hp supercharged variant for the Z06, as that seemed to be a pretty good matchup in the C7 for those who wanted more power.

Maybe they are going after the (now grown up) Honda VTEC owners? I really don't understand what their play is here.

None of that addresses the alleged LT2 hybrids that have been out testing either. One of the test cars had a legible VIN in the photos. It was a YC model, a 7 engine code, and 2021 model year. None of those things line up with the currently known cars. The engine wasn't covered up on those test cars and it was clearly a variation on the LT2 rather than being some DOHC thing.

GTOs were made into 2000. I don't know exactly when production stopped completely.

The other thing to remember on the GTO is Japan dictates model year different from the US. From what I recall it has more to do with first registered than what the manufacturer says its year is.

One last hurrah? Let their engineers do what they want for potentially the last Vette that isn't powered by batteries?

Plus since they used the flat plane crank in the race cars, don't they have to make some level of production cars to satisfy homologation rules?

They're really in a different class. GT350's main competitor is the Camaro ZL1 1LE. If it really get's what they say it's more to compete against the Ford GT and other supercars honestly.

You can't even get a Ford GT, so not sure why that would even be a consideration. I don't think there's a lot of potential Ferrari or Lamborgini buyers thinking "I'll get a Corvette instead of a supercar". They aren't buying those for performance, those are status symbols.
