There gonna have to let tuning happen at some point. The big thing about the C8 was to appeal to a younger crowd, and I feel the younger crowd wants that ability, and will look at other vehicles potentially. Time will tell though I guess.
The thing to remember is major auto manufacturers want to take the same route John Deere has in basically making it impossible to have any work done by a non sanctioned shop.

Oh that oil filter didn't handshake properly with the pcm... Limp mode

They don't have to do anything. The EPA has finally called bullshit on all those 'off road use only' parts. Between that and security for internet connected vehicles, it's in their best interest to lock this stuff down. The best we can hope for is either in-house performance upgrades, or upgrades from partners who have enough money to get their stuff EPA certified.

Not too surprising that the EPA is getting pissed with the idiot coal roller boyz being dipshits. The rest of us who were at least trying to tune and still be responsible about it are going to get screwed.

My Spyder with the power cranked up and running on E85 is probably cleaner than it ever was from the factory.

100% agree. Mine is similar, E85, and probably cleaner than stock, even without EGR and Evap.

Looks like they are making progress on “piggybacks”.

I don't think they would lose much sales by not allowing tuning. I think it would impact 3rd party shops far far more. The tuning crowd is a pretty small minority.

“They” aren’t going to unlock this. If you think they will, then you don’t understand what lengths GM has gone to in order to secure this digital architecture.
Piggy backs are the dumbest thing ever on GM cars not going max effort. All you have to do is wait a year or so and they unlock the cars, just like they did on the ZR1. The push to be first to do shit on Youtube is fucking up the game.
Yeah, GM didn't unlock the ZR1, HPTuners found a work around. That work around won't work on the C8.

On that note, I found two service bulletins saying the gateways and E99 ECMs are on parts restriction. So basically you have to give GM a justification for why you want one before they'll send one out. I don't know if that's because they're trying to restrict aftermarket R&D, or they only have a limited supply. Or maybe it's a little bit of both.

I'm gonna say a bit of both for sure. I'd guess the folks at GM know that HP Tuners found a work around on the ZR1, and want to prevent it as much as possible.

Probably had to do with the EPA, as well as the assholes who mod the shit out of their cars and then return them to stock and trade them in and then the next owner gets shafted on the warranty.

Emelia blew up her engine. Sounds like she holed a piston at a minimum.

It’s not a rod. If it’s running back to the shop, it’s not a rod. I didn’t watch the whole thing but it drove back. Don’t care what they say.

She'll probably make enough on the hate-clicks alone to pay for the engine.

They’re getting piggybacks to somewhat work. But still running 650+hp/tq on and engine designed for 490 isn’t going to work.
