For comparison, here's our truck from approximately the same angles. The cat is just a bonus.

I say go for it! Like you said it looks very similar to yours, and the only thing is that cross member. But I bet you can find an ok one of those used cheap.

No matter what, the current garage will not have two trucks with engine swaps at one time.
Not until we get more property and a separate workshop. [/quote]
Move on from.

That's part of the frame. It's welded on and doesn't seem to be available separately.

Fuel line and bump stop look bad but honestly not horrible for that year Chevy.

That cross member and the body pan just above it look suspect. If you could sand blast and then POR 15 it then you might be ok. I just loathe rust that gets to be anything over superficial.
You guys taking a trip tomorrow? Strip all your good parts off your H3 today yet? Lol.

I've definitely seen worse but as a pnw resident both of those would be a hard pass for me based on rust.

After dealing with that wrx coming from years and years of rust free cars, that still looks terrible to me lol.

Yup.
Grew up out east. Once I discovered the true rust free nature of the west coast vehicles I'll never buy anything else.

How many of you have rust free, yet inoperable, vehicles right now?

Yes.
But I can hop in my rust free 89 s10, 01 exploder, g37, Maxima, Swift, or Montero sr right now and drive. Yes I have a bunch of non op vehicles but that's only because I quit caring.
The Hyundai, 89 Montero, 91 b2600i, and sidekick were parked running perfectly. Battery and fresh fuel they'll probably fire right up.
To be clear my exploder does have some rust. It spent it's first year as a dealer demo in Massachusetts then the next 2 years in NC and Georgia.

My H3 has a little rust and it runs just fine. I'm from MI. This isn't even the diet coke of rust.

All of mine run fine. Already have the truck back. Jeep has issues but runs, and spent its first 14 yrs of life in Wisconsin. So it has rust unfortunately.

Lol I know that's really not that bad for where it's from.
We get a lot of them here because people buy them cheap out there, slap paint over the rust, and sell them here for market value. Vehicles here really hold value because of the no rust. When was the last time you saw a square body s10 without grapefruit size holes in it?

All of my cars are rust free lol. The fozzy has a front subframe with some surface rust because I pulled it from the rusty mi wrx, but it’s not as bad as the hummer lol. The only structural part I needed for the swap was the only structural part not fucking rusted to shit.

Only because of the built in Subaru rust prevention.
Also found standard on land rovers, Harley's, and most Chrysler products.
