My sister has a Yukon Denali. Yea its cute and nice, but not any nicer than an upper trim level Ford. They also are not easy to see out of the back or rear sides. Its not terrible, but between the larger mirrors on the truck and the smaller cab you can see quite a bit better.

I like the bed because I can easily carry things as small as groceries (install an adjustable divider), drive to Lowes, toss all my chain and binders for towing, install a camper, haul home engines/axles/transmissions, large dirty car parts, or whatever. Its tough and durable for whatever you want to put in it.

Chris doesn’t have dirty engines and what not. Yes a bed is nice but without a cover, extra expense, they are pretty much wasted space.

He’s drove everything else. His unwillingness to drive mine is mainly my push for it. It’s light years above the Ford I rode in.

Here's what I'd want out of a Tahoe, and I can get a newer lower mileage Expedition for the same price. Or I can get a similar year Lexus GX460 with lower miles.

Not right now, but he has a track car. Im sure he could utilize the space for tools, jacks, extra tires, chains for when he hits up the track. Doesnt need a cover, but there is always the option if he does (starting at around $175) and arent deal breakers.

If that Tahoe has the fuel cut offs then it gets 7-10mpg better than those mentioned and would be well worth it when gas prices go back up.

Have a source? Google says that on a 2014 the Chevy Tahoe gets 15/21 and the F150 gets 17/23mpg.

Needing a cap or a tonneau cover for secure storage and having passengers is one of the reasons I'm not sold on a pickup truck. Also CA requires them to be registered as commercial vehicles meaning registration is a noticeable amount more.

I only mentioned the Subaru because of the Flex you posted.

The multi displacement Tahoe doesn't get 27-30 mpg highway. The GX, Expedition, and Tahoe all get about 20mpg highway.

This is when I drove from Nashville, remember TN is NOT flat...yes it says over the last 25 miles but you can see on the gas gauge it wasn't like I just tried for the best and took a pic. If it were flat, I could have gotten WAY better!

It came around 2008 or so. I can't remember exactly what year.


If you're using the computer readout for your mpg feel free to ignore it. My explorer shows 15.3 and gets about 13.5 in the winter. My Infiniti shows 19.8 and averages 17.8

There are quite a few options for secure storage if that is important to you. Tonneau covers that go from several hundred up to over a thousand depending on what you want. Im trying to figure out the passenger thing. Do you frequently haul a lot of people around? There is only two of you currently correct? Either way the F150 can comfortably haul between 5-6 people depending on if you get the center console. Thats room for 3-4 other people.

You've gone back and forth several times in this thread about Subaru's. Are Subaru's out of the picture then? :d ontknow:

Im not saying its not true, were you looking at the trip meter, or taking actual mileage along with actual fuel pumped into your truck. The trip gagues are known to fudge especially if not on the correct setting.





Chris, im wondering if you have looked much into the Ram 1500's. If you really want bed storage and excellent gas mileage a 2014+ EcoDiesel with Ramboxes would be a good fit.

I only had to fill up once so I did not check it. But I bet a little reading on forums to figure out if it’s accurate wouldn’t be hard. This was also the suburban. Weighs more and thus would even get worse.

Well I'd want dry storage so the cover would have to be reasonably water tight. I personally prefer to have a fixed center console so I'd prefer a 5 passenger truck. Come early May there will be 3 of us

I have the same issue with the Ram as I do with the Jeep Grand Cherokees I've been looking at. I'm not sure I trust FCA reliability. Also the ecoDiesel would be overkill for my 6 mile commute. I've actually had a couple sales people recommend I don't get a diesel engine because my commute is too short for the emissions systems to work properly. I think they said I'd likely end up clogging the particulate filter because it would never get to temperature for it to burn off.

We're on our second Avalanche and still love it. Electronic rear suspension has issues in regions that dump salt on the roads. Had a bad spark plug recently. Other than that, both have been solid since 2002. Love having the locked box with the hard tonneau covers. Side box storage is handy. Can tow the Spyder on my trailer no problem.

I think you and I are in similar boats. I eventually went with the Ram 1500 Laramie loaded with all the options including Ramboxes. Like you i opted for the extra storage and wanted the tried and tested gen 3 5.7 Hemi. With MDS (cylinder shudown) and 8 speeds trans I get above 20 mpg regularly.

I don't think you'd burn it off maybe on the daily commute, but you'd drive it further on the weekends to do that. I think the EcoDiesel option is a great choice for you, either Cherokee or Ram. Based on my sister and bro-in-laws recent FCA vehicles (2 Durangos, and a Ram1500 with the V6), they have had no issues, and they put lots of miles on their vehicles.
