Just use the hill of the driveway!
Edit: Now that I think about it - this is probably why I am not a parent.

The back of the wife’s school is perfect. It’s off the road, away from things, big circle, and will let her get good practice.alienviking wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 4:00 pm Just use the hill of the driveway!

Still hacking away at this. I made the motor plate but had to attach it to the kart. The one that came with it didn’t fit it.
So square tube. Two holes, bolt together from under. This was tricky. I don’t want it bottoming out so it needs to fit a certain hole to be drilled. But it has to be thick enough to be strong enough. I’m very proud of my measurements.

Cut in half. Two mounting points.

More holes drilled and tapped for said previous parts.

Damnit. They didn’t have 45mm and these 50mm are just a hair too tall. Gonna need to grind or file a couple mm off.
Also got one wrong bolt with the motor crank. Otherwise the chain, gear, and everything else I need to get this moving is here.

I honestly think I’m more proud of the square tubing and the measuring. Look how it’s just the damn sidewall of the square so it fits under so perfectly! Yup. Proud.

Re: Coop did another thing….kid kart….ssss

Chain on. But it’s so much more than this. I put the gear on the inside last weekend. But only for me to realize that I left the one piece gear on. So I had to take it all apart again to get that gear off. Then could put on the new gear. Well the new gear needed 6 bolts and old one 4. So I had go get bolts. Frustrating. But got it on. Then I had to figure out how to break a chain, and put it back together. That took a little. Then I had to loosen my motor mount and push the engine forward to take up enough slack. Again. Fun.
Then the old throttle cable wasn’t long enough. Plus its plastic cover wasn’t either. Had to run new line and throttle cable. Got all of that.

Wheels back on! It’s ready for oil and fuel and go see what I’ve messed up on or missing.
Woot!

Put the oldest in it and I need to move the seat forward. It looks like previous made little extenders to have it back so that’s no big deal to move it up. She can barely hit the gas but deff can’t get the leverage to push that brake peddle. It takes some force.

Went to move the seat, and man was it HEAVY, I didn’t see any weight but this ended up being a 20lb weight. Of all copper. Kind of cool.

Swapped the mychron, this was the previous driver.

New driver!!

Added the head temp sensor and rpm wire. Rpm wire broke and so I ordered a new one.
Got the seat moved forward. Seems to be much better for her. Still not ideal yet. We will see.

Rpm wire showed up today. I would like to add a fuel shut off so the carb runs dry. Need to find the right size hose and valve.

Now….if it has enough HP here is its possible top speed. No way 3hp gets it there.

Have a chain guard and fuel shut off on the way. I hope to go actually test it tomorrow. I need a longer bolt to help limit the rpm.

Got the bolt to stop the gas pedal. And fixed the idle with a better spring.
Tomorrow we gonna try it.

It's for his kid. She's not going to die. She's going to have a blast.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Overall I couldn’t be happier. It went great. Even 25% throttle was to fast. I had to go out there once and slow her down. She wants to go faster. Need to check the bushings on that steering. And need to figure out a way she can hear me in the helmet as I don’t need to be yelling or hand signals.

Whatever you build, make it so it's removable. It looks like some leagues don't allow radios.

We have the wife’s school walkie talkies. Wonder if there is just a really small speaker I can put in the helmet. We tried the ear piece but it wanted to push out while putting it on.
