I'm glad he thought a Santa Fe was good idea for an offroad vehicle.

I mean it is the 'off-road' trim and a Crosstrek has no issues with that course

Comparing a 2 row to a 3 row crossover weighing at 3,300 lbs. vs 4,400 lbs.

If you are buying a Subaru or a Santa Fe as a capable "off roading" vehicle then you have bigger problems.

The Hybrid Santa Fe's don't come with a spare tire or any of its associated parts. You get a fix a flat can and an air pump. You also get a 5 year roadside assistance plan. Being that i live more rural that most of the US that roadside assistance plan isn't that great especially if I'm in the middle of Nevada, Idaho, Utah, or Colorado.

Good news is there is a fix. All the standard ICE Santa Fe's did come with all the hardware, so that means i can order it. Well, at least the tire carrier. I'm not paying nearly $400 for a spare tire. First up was to mount the carrier.

Now to find a tire. Local PnP had a 40% off sale so i took a stab at it. Little tough as she has 20" wheels. VR4 spare by comparison:




Final solution was an 18" Lexus aluminum spare wheel with a larger tire. Overall diameter is about 1/2" off, but i can survive with that for now.




It wasn't plug and play either. Center hub was a tad bigger. Had to bust out the router bit. Not the prettiest, but will work in a pinch, or until i can find a better solution.

Had the same problem with my sister in law's Stelvio. It was a something like a $450 factory option, and buying it after the fact is around $1200 all in. It's insane. It's got big 4 piston Brembos up front, so there aren't many junkyard options either. Fortunately it looks like the spare from Vira's SQ5 is exactly the same, and those are a lot more common on the used market than Stelvio parts. We still need to figure out the foam insert, and even the damn jack points use weird Alfa specific jack pads. It's infuriating.

At least yours looks nice and straightforward.

Yea, that's an even worse situation with the large Brembos and weird jack points. I ended up using my spare Montero bottle jack and hardware too. It all fits in the rear compartment, so we will get by. Ill just need to remind myself to look into the premium junk yards to nab the jack hardware and spare at a discount price. That's the downside of buying a first model year of a car.

The Santa Fe couldn't be left out either. I would say it was the easiest and best looking.
