Yeah I think Flickr was expecting a jpg.
So was the motor fine and your just freshing it up?

Coop
HG looked pretty good really was just slightly weeping oil externally. No indication of either one blowing at the combustion chamber.

It's a Subaru. I thought that was a foregone conclusion? :p

I wasn't expecting anything beyond needing to be resurfaced for installation. Apparently it needs all new valve guides and at least one exhaust valve. I was planning on $500-$600 max on head prep for installation.

This is beyond the $1100 you spent already?

Yep already bought $1100 in parts for the transmission rebuild, and HG reinstall. Need about $700 in additional parts, then probably $500+ for the labor of the transmission rebuild. Then there's a possibility of another $600 for cats since it had a P0420 code stored in memory when I bought it. If that's it I'll be in at somewhere around $5000-$6000 for the entire car.

Machine them and bolt them back on.

The only time I've come across a bad valve guide or other head issue in a Subaru was after a shop went in and did head work.

Apparently one of exhaust valves is bent :d ontknow: I don't really have any reason to believe they are jobbing me as this shop has always done right by us in the past.

Just get it done. It's peace of mind if nothing else.

Or just go to any pick and pull and have dozens to pick from.

I don't know about down there but up here any Subaru that lands in the yard is almost instantly picked clean.

It can come in waves but we get so many that you can find one pretty easy. Plus it’s not worth rebuilding certain parts as new is just as cheap and readily available. It’s as if they were built out of plastic and designed to fail constantly.

They don't last long around me from what I've seen especially engine and transmission.

Might pay to visit Reno. Let me know what you are looking for and I’ll keep an eye out.

Picked up the transmission on Friday morning and took a drive to just west of Reno today and picked up a used and slightly abused factory bed cover for the Baja. It's missing the front and rear locks and a few bolts that are not available any more so I'll have to figure it out.

I just set it on to see how it works and looks.

Also got some pretty good gas mileage on the way back lol....

Couldn’t say hi?

7k ft to sea level does make for great mpg.
