Yep. This is why although I now have the full gauge cluster set up I still hook up the OBD2 tool the Jeep and run it on the phone when taking longer drives. 20+ year old Jeep, with 20+ year old gauge cluster = not that accurate. I assume same can be said the your Avalanche. Just buy a OBD2 bluetooth scanner and run it to your phone.

Also looking at the Avalanche thermostat, it doesn't fully open till 190°F. So it's very reasonable to expect to see slightly hotter temps on a 100°F day with the AC on full blast.

As an FYI, my Stealth runs about 5-10°F hotter on 100°F days, and that is looking at both oil and water temp with real gauges.

And I’m off to find an obd2 gauge reader. Something simple and small.

Looks a lot like black stealth stuff lol. Was hoping to stay pretty cheap but don’t really like any of those.

You can go cheap with a $20 BT or Wi-Fi adapter and an app on your phone, but they are hell on your phones battery. They drain it fast and heat it up both of which can severely shorten your battery life span. I'm planning to get a scan gauge for the Sequoia especially if/when I tow more often with it. I want to monitor trans temperature.

That's basically the same setup I have but it's a bit of a pain to plug in when I want to use it and get my phone setup in the mount. The nice thing about the Scan Gauge is you can mount it and plug it in and never have to mess with it.

I bought the one I linked. I’m hoping I can watch coolant, trans, and fuel. Lol. Also helpful it reads and clears codes as I’m sure they will happen a lot.

Kind of want something like that for my escape. Something like boost/trans/coolant.

Buy a second one for the Escape. :d ontknow: OBDII is still the standard, so it should work in the Escape.

Someone on the facebook group swapped out their clutch for the fan and then said it must have been bad since they owned it as he said it’s LOUD when it kicks on. So that settles it, I deff think mine is bad. Gonna try and find the parts so I can swap it out after this month is over.

So I did get this in and tried it in both vehicles. It would be perfect if it could read the trans temp. Other than that I’m happy with it.

I know later GMs had a trans temp gauge. My Grand Prix even had one hidden within the digital info center.

Yes the older avalanche’s had it in the dash. But all of them the ecu’s see trans temp to shut down the vehicle so the trans doesn’t get hurt.

I had to dig up the PIDs for the Exploder and for the Sequoia for use in Torque Pro.

Had this odd feeling of something being loose when going over bumps. I had jacked it up and looked at everything. Shook everything. Nothing was loose. So I took it to a place I trusted. Same place that worked on my Humvee. He said my shocks were dead and my tires didn’t have enough rubber to absorb. So I don’t buy the tires. But I believe him on shocks so he is gonna replace those and we will see.
