Bang for the buck all that custom stuff adds up to more than what it would cost to run the LFX setup though... :(

Is there any reason you can't use a stock Evo exhaust manifold and just flip the turbo 180* ?

Not that I am aware of. I'm pretty sure people use EVO exhaust manifolds on the DSM all the time.

The intake thing is a no-go. The gasket isn't even remotely the same.

Hey Mike, you were absolutely right about the LS being the better choice.

Finally got a chance to drive a well sorted LS3 swapped Miata. It was nothing like I imagined. Yes it was fast but the thing that blew me away was how it hooked, cornered and accelerated out of corners even when on the power. This was with only 215 wide tires too.

The all aluminum motor spaced where it is didn't make the car front heavy or under steer prone. It was honestly still the same little Miata I know and love. Just with 489whp instead of 90....

The car also sports a real differential vs the crap one way Miata Torsen which helped manage the huge amount of power well even for a novice driver like me.

This drive really changed my mind about how to setup the next project car. Thank you for your input. :)

Just an update to this thread.

Cord Bauer, the owner of the Bauer Catfish, closed his doors last year for good. Maybe he bit off more than he could chew with this, maybe COVID, maybe there's just not a market for the car, but sadly there's only 32 of these out there and the only way to get one now is to get it used.

It's really too bad. He had something great going there for a while.
