The ECU doesn't bug me. I doubt I'd do anything with it anyway.
I dunno. My whole reason for buying a nice, AWD car was to get down to just ONE car. Something I could use in all seasons, and that I can easily get in and out of the garage when it's snowy or hot. Now I'm talking about some POS Montero I've never even seen pictures of

Lol. At least you will know your way around the power train. Probably still have a stash of parts you could use on it as well.

$2K for the Montero.. isn't that about the same price as your winter tires would be?

That's what I said. It's roughly what winter wheels and tires would cost, and I'd have the added bonus of having my S5 parked safely at home.
It also has the side effect of having made it totally pointless to have bought an AWD year-round car in the first place

No salt on the S5!
Haha I'd probably get tires/wheels to be honest. Drive in more comfort and style.. and less driveway clutter and far less things that will go wrong.

One car is overrated. Two good cars is the way to go.

If you ever want to keep your nice car nice then you want to keep it out of snow/salt/hail/ice. Does this mean you don't drive it most the time....no, but it does mean you have the choice!

The Audi needs to be your stylish backup for the winter. Use the Montero as your winter beater. So much less stress and fun on the road.

Doesn't matter. Montero got sold. They need to take it off their website.

There will be more of those to come. Keep an eye out.
So i finally got back last night. Was excited to finally look into the cars. That didnt happen though. Rain started to fly as soon as we got off the plane. Did manage to get wet and kill to black widows on the chassis though. lol!

Just found this gem today. Its a 72, but goes to show the DOHC will fit. WIN!!!

I'm not sure that qualifies as "fits". Coolant manifold doesn't look very happy. Slide everything forward, sure...

I agree that it does sit quite a ways back in there, but both blocks have a narrow crossover that run across there. Not super worried about it at the moment. Was more worried about the oil pan and the brake master cyl clearances.

This is SOHC, but the DOHC engine uses the same style of plumbing. It's meant to sit up close to the firewall. If you notice in Steve's photo, the radiator hose fittings are on moved to the timing gear side.
Looks like the source link for that picture has some useful stuff. Part numbers, reference material, etc.

No room to keep the stock 3/S manifold back there and run a long upper radiator hose?

Why bother with a bad hack like that when you've got all the parts to make it nice and clean?
If anyone is interested, I have Montero factory service manuals for 1996, 2003 and the overseas 2006+ MIVEC model.

I just rolled truck but nothing major except the windshield.
Nothing major except the windshield? YOU ROLLED IT OVER!
It's also got a bad head gasket. Still, not bad for $600...

Yea, I took a look at the differences in the spacing from the firewall last night and they were very similar. Only difference being that there is a larger tunnel (likely due to auto) on the Montero and it has a small indentation toward the top. I still don't see an issue with the plumbing though.
Thanks for the link. That guy is an animal. He has fabricated a lot to stay with the Montero. Even using a Jeep transfer case. I probably would have dropped the whole powertrain minus the axles and gone with the Jeep stuff.

Agreed. Keeping it simple and stock looking. Helps to pass the visual too.

Lol...nothing major. That thing is a wreck! If you are looking for one a nice one I have seen some others pop up in my area.
