Think the Montero Sr bolts will work? I have one sitting in my yard

Maybe? I dunno. I'd hate to have you mail them to me and have them be wrong.

Yea those are important. I think I robbed mine from the SR as the bellhousing is similar. Don’t forget a dip stick. That one is particular to that pan. Also the little flywheel inspection plate cover. Might grab the intake manifold as well. I measured the 3.8 monti and it doesn’t look to clear the hood. The kia or SR do.

I got the dip stick. I'm pretty sure I have the inspection plate. I need to rummage around for that.

I paid more for that damn intake than I did for either of my engines. I will make it fit.

For now, I'm just going to use the 3.5L intake.

Hmmm some split washers and fasenal would work for me....seems like your taking this a little far. But hey, most my stuff doesn't match and I applaud the correctness.

Actually if there are plenty of Sorentos at the junkyards, it'd be cheaper to get them from the junkyard than from Fastenal

According to ASA, these bolts are over 180mm long.

Fastenal only goes up to 150mm in an M6x1.0, and those are $5 each.

So even if I could get the correct size, it'd be over $10 before shipping, and it still doesn't have the lockwasher.

Or I spend 10 minutes under a truck at the junkyard and get the correct bolts for maybe a $1 each. Probably free if I go to the don't-give-a-fuck Mexican girls at Muncie U Pull.

Ever use mcmastercar? Love that place. That's where I get all my bolts from. Just info, not suggestions.

I have. I usually don't need to. My local hardware stores actually have a pretty good selection of metrics in the shorter lengths. I've got 6 junkyards to chose from if I need the oddball stuff.

The 3.5 monti will do fine for now. Next time there is a 50% off though go grab one.

I also think people are underestimating how long the rear bolt pan bolts are. They are very long!

thats like transmission bell housing to end case long bolt.

A 7 inch bolt for an oil pan, Jesus

You know how the 3S has those stamped steel brackets that connect from the sides of the block to the bottom of the transmission? The truck has big cast iron versions of those.

The later cars deleted those brackets and integrated all of that into the oil pan. The oil pan is now a structural part of the engine and trans combination. Amazingly, the Sorento and Eclipse pans line up with the bell housing exactly.

Interesting. I guess the basic 6G architecture did not change. Makes sense, as I would assume it would take a serious amount of money to completely design an engine from scratch.

I was going to say usually around here at pick n pull I've never paid for hardware when buying other parts. Diamanters on the other hand usually throw it out and you can never get it from them.

Pick n Pull has gotten bad lately. They hit you for every little piece. They tried to get me for used brake pads when I bought some calipers. I popped them out at the check out and said I didn't need them. When I bought Aaron's spoiler, they charged me separately for the brake light. Their prices on computers and sensors are getting a little silly too. I guess it all comes down to the plunging value of scrap metal.

Muncie and Liberty are owned by Midway Auto. We bought our Spyder from their salvage car operation. They don't seem to care about little shit. When I got my Eclipse engine, they charged me for a base long block only. Even though I left the coils, injectors and wiring harness on it. I think I got out the door around $160 including the core charge. I was planning to spend close to double that.

That’s interesting when I picked up the top latches and striker plates for the Miata they only charged me for the latches and gave me the striker plates for free.

It seems to depend on who you get.

I'm kind of hoping the truck is the last 'project' for a while. I think I've got nearly everything I want for it. The only big thing I still need to get is the hybrid LSD for the 3.5L rear end. But that can wait until next spring or summer.

so, this oil pan connecting to block and transmission....doesnt that just INVITE a leak? twisting and all?
