Rent a UHaul and stop overthinking it.
Plenty of examples of people doing it with just about every generation of Corvette.

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

You know you can just drive cautious right? Not like you have slicks on. But it’s your call.

Already have one reserved in case. I just want to be able to drive it to see how it felt. Lol. Need to go buy some 2x8 boards. Of all the wood I have at the house, none are 2x8.

If there's a chance of ice, then HARD fuckin pass. We had to take Vira's Audi out in some ice last winter and it was terrifying. It's AWD but it still has old 3 season Florida-spec tires on it. I don't think I'd even want to tow it if there was a serious chance of ice. Just leave it there until the weather is clear.

Weather changed. Now only 20% chance of rain and 50s now for Friday.
Re: This can only end poorly
proper snow tires make driving on ice so much easier. not like driving on snow but its at least doable.Jeff V. wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 1:55 am If there's a chance of ice, then HARD fuckin pass. last winter, after finally getting my truck out of the 3/8" of ice it was encapsulated in, i was able to drive up to my moms place. with a couple notable hills. didnt have much trouble doing it.
parked and got out. damn near fell right on my ass. turns out everything was still a sheet of ice.
im ordering proper winter tires for the sunearth this week.

And this is why proper winter tires are mandatory in Norway
And they check every single semi trailer coming into Norway for tires and chains.

They are calling for a rough winter in the PNW. I've debated on it too for the Subarus at least.
Need to load chains in them too.
Not required to carry them all the time starting nov 1 like everything over 10000 gvw, but the passes sometimes required them on all vehicles depending on the weather.

Re: This can only end poorly
my understanding is if its full time AWD and has MP3SF rating its good for not needing chains (passenger vehicles not towing). i know portland did conditional closures in the city a few times requiring chains but thats just oregon being dumb.Duck Vader wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 7:02 pm They are calling for a rough winter in the PNW. last step before pass closure = Chains required on ALL vehicles, even 4WD/AWD.

Re: This can only end poorly
CHP and CalTrans technically have a classification where chains are required on AWD/4x4 but they always close the roads before it comes to that. Also officially your supposed to have "traction devices" (chains or cables) in your possession even if you have AWD or 4x4 but I've never heard of anyone being cited for it here.
Re: This can only end poorly
Do those tire socks work at all? I wouldn’t mind having something extra for the avalanche.

No idea. I have only ever used chains and that was only when I was doing heavy snow off-road. Never used them on road.
