My Pontiac was a former rental. It really showed no signs of abuse and it was a supercharged car that would light the tires up if you wanted to try.

Aaron knows all about this one, was texting him last night about it.

My dad stumbled on a 2013 F-150 XLT 4x4 with 54k miles, 3.5 EcoBoost, 3.55 Locking rear diff, trailer brake controller, Candy Red, gray cloth 6 passenger interior. Missing features I'd like to have are automatic climate control, leather, heated seats, power folding mirrors and center console. I went and looked at it last night at the local Chevy store and they said they could sell it for just under $22k. From my searching it's a great deal, so good it has my spidie sense tingling. Carfax and auto check both show a clean title CA truck with regular oil changes.

Do I give up some of the features I'd really like to have because it's such a good deal? It looks like I can add power folding mirrors for about $700 and if I really want to I could add leather from leatherseats.com for another $900. Even then I'd still be into the truck for less than what the market value really is.

I think it’s a good enough deal to buy but what’s its tow rating on that 3.5?

Probably 10-11k

I guess my question is are you willing to get a good deal now on something you don't exactly want, or are you willing to wait for the "perfect" one even if it means spending a little more? You have waited this long, why not hold out until you find what you truly want and not "settle"?

But I also think this too. I've basically gone 4+ months. Aaron thinks I should spend the extra money on the expedition because it'd likely be a better fit for us, but I'm not sure the better fit is worth nearly 10k out the door.

It is a vehicle, not a gf/wife.. save $10K and lose some minor features.

I just don't want to see another one of these threads in the next year or so where he decides that is wasn't what he needed/wanted and have to start all over again.

Yep. Was talking to the mechanic about the truck before they had done the inspection and while he's not against it he's not a big fan of direct injection because of the carbon buildup issues. He asked why I wasn't looking for a Toyota truck, and I told him I had been but have a real problem with paying $15k+ for a 10+ year old truck with 150k+ miles on it.

I'm still waiting to hear back from them post inspection.

Either way you will like the xlt truck. Mine was the xlt package as well but the V8. I had the cloth and it was very comfortable and breathed well. Not having climate controls didnt bother me, but i know it can be a deal breaker for some. I also never needed folding mirrors as they arent large...well there was that one time in SF when I parked on a busy street, but thats another story.

You will want to keep up on the ignition components though. I have a couple customers with these as fleet trucks and they will act up when spark plugs go bad. I think around 60-90k miles is your interval. Otherwise they are fast as stank.

[/quote] The auto climate control isn't a deal breaker but close to it. I just get tired of always having to fidget with the hvac control. It's really nice to just set a temperature and leave it alone. The reason I want the power folding mirrors is because it makes it a lot easier to fit into the garage.

I heard back from the inspection. Basically they said it's in very good mechanical condition. No maintenance items needed for at least a few thousand miles. Basically just recommended keeping an eye on the condition of the transmission fluid and rear diff fluid. They did note a good amount of scratches on the exterior. I saw some but it was also after sunset when I saw the truck yesterday. The ones I saw I could probably have buffed out. However they said they noticed a few pretty bad ones that couldn't be buffed.

Not sure if it's a common issue or not, but the service truck at my previous job had the rear end bearings fail at 90k miles. That may be what they were saying about keeping an eye on the rear diff fluid.

Carbon build up on direct injection is way over built up. I have dont a ton of reading on it, get on the vehicle every once in a while to blow it out, use a fuel additive some, and I've seen people take apart heads with 200k plus on them and the carbon build up is find on direct injection. Really Really blown way out of proportion.

I get wanting the creature comforts. Once you get them you wonder how you survived without them. My ram has them and now my work truck doesn’t. It was irritating at first but now I’ve got the system down.

I never had to keep an eye on the trans or rear. I serviced them at recommended intervals but they were solid. I think my tc output shaft seal seeped from the factory but that was a quick fix.

Honestly the only issues I’ve heard of are for the V6 with the ignition and changing out spark plugs and coils early. Run good fuel and you shouldn’t have issues.

Drove mine to 180k and not a hint of issues. Even towed a few trailers and cars over the sierras At 70 mph. May have also gone flat out for miles in abandoned nevada at 94mph. Yes that’s the factory governor.
