So some suggested to use a little rtv when installing. Other said it wasnt needed. When I took out the old there was some black putty type of material. So I thought the rtv was t needed. Drove in the rain today and yeah, I need some rtv. I will take it back out and put some in.

How many hmmwv owners to you think are automotive smart?
I see a ton of cars come in that have been "fixed" by the average person with orange rtv oozing out all the way around the valve cover that's still leaking and blue rtv on every cooling system seal

^This, so much this!
I see so many Subarus people claimed to have 'fixed' and it's worse than when they started... I'm not even a mechanic.
I took a lot of pride as a 'diy mechanic' when the local Subaru expert shop complemented me on the work done on my old spec.B.

Then again it's a goobermint contact built vehicle. The book probably calls for what ends up being clear fish tank silicone with a fancy mil spec part number and an even more ridiculous price tag.

Pretty much this. I've dealt with DOD contract stuff and none of the stuff is special, it just has stupid tolerances and is checked by a DOD employee once or twice, then they don't check it again.

How are you going to impress the guys at the golf club or the Instagram bros with a beat up, old ex-Mil Humvee?

I read another article recently where some shop did a six figure build on a Wagoneer. Just because the owner of the truck had fond memories of the Jeep his parents had when he was a kid.
The article said he was doing to use it to 'ferry guests around his vacation property' on Long Island or something.

If something is in your path, aren't just supposed to run it over with a HMMWV? No real reason to steer.
