I think so. The camera has two cables. A yellow RCA for video, and a separate power and ground line. The RCA has an extra red wire on it. I guess that's what it's for. I'll do that if I have to, but I already soldered and terminated everything to work the 'right' way.
The network adapter is supposed to work with C6 Corvettes, so it's not like my oddball truck is the only manual transmission application. Knowing GM, they used a unique network message for the trucks or something.

Looking at the diagram the backup lamps on both transmissions avoid the bcm. It's run relay to switch/tr sensor to fuse block (it may break out here. Didn't look that far yet) to lamps

Re: Yes, we bought an H3. Deal with it :p
There's a trigger line that runs to the EBCM, and the EBCM is connected to the Class2 bus and the BCM.
But you're right. The actual trigger mechanism is the only difference between auto and manual. You would think the programming would be the same, at least as far as the reverse network message. But I wouldn't put it past GM to install some weird H3-specific shit.
I'm going to double check a few things tonight and then see if I can't get in touch with Metra about it.

wire the reverse lights to the radio backup input, accessory power to the camera. wiring the camera itself to acc makes it more instantaneous when you go into reverse, some cameras take a second to turn on, thats why you see a black screen on your radio for a second before the picture comes up.

I've already run all the cables I'm going to run. The camera comes on instantly when I go into reverse.
The dongle has a USB port. There's a firmware update utility. Inside there's a 16Mbit SPI EPROM and a STM32F processor.
There's other ways to fix this

I finally spent a little money on some semi-professional CAN debugging software. That made it a piece of cake to identify the message that gets triggered when you go into reverse. Now it'll just be a matter of seeing if Metra can help me get the dongle working correctly.

I guess it's not completely useless as a truck. The Jeep roof rack seems to have done the job nicely.

For every one of those, there's ten of these.

You know all those are because of Hummer boys that were abandoned a decade ago by GM/Hummer and had to go "all in" with Jeep, right?

I really, really dislike the H2. The proportions of it are just so weird and stumpy.
