Have it in at Toyota for a recall today, and my service advisor calls me and says it has a valve cover leak. I knew it was there I'm just being lazy and not replacing it. The advisor said "we can get it done for you today, only $700  .

Parts are like $40 and it doesn't take a long time to do so wtf are they doing for $700

Ha at that price there's no lube...

I'm not letting them repair the VC gaskets not at that price. Maybe if they had said $360. I can believe it2.5 hours of labor, and $50 worth of parts.

Apparently you did not include the solid gold RTV for the cam bumps

Lol we don't charge for a tube of rtv for just a VC gasket.

I'll charge for it to do timing covers or oil pans.

Finally put the front brakes on it. I bought them back in April and finally got around to doing the work. I really need to get the parts to do the valve cover gaskets as the leak on the drivers side is pretty bad now.

Yeah its more of getting the time to do it. Also not having a spare car now means if Jen is gone I cannot run to the parts store in an emergency.

Question: OE or are the Fel Pro ones good enough?

I'm honestly partial to oe.

I've been seeing felpro weeping after a few months on the 1mz. It'll probably be the same on yours.

You see enough of OE vs felpro, do they just use a different type of rubber? Surely they have the design the same? What’s usually the difference?

Yes. Considering it's my day job for the last 19 years I've seen a couple.

Different material. Felpro is more silicone like.
