Fuck yeah! I love when jeff plays with wires. I wish I could do stuff like that. I'm just trying to figure out how to test which wires go where when I switch to a keyed ignition and there are only 4 of them! Haha

You have a cheap multi meter, right?

Disconnect your batteries so you don't fry something, and start testing the wires with the continuity mode on the meter. You've found the right one when it beeps. I can't imagine your truck has a harness that's that much more complicated than mine. They're both super basic in that regard.

The dash harness in a 3000G is more complicated than the entire bumper to bumper wiring harness for my truck.

My head hurts just looking at that.

I came to my senses this morning. That coppery mess is going to get pushed entirely into phase 2.

I was going to try to build some sort of modular wiring harness, but the more I look into the details, the more insane it is. It'll be easier to just build two complete front chassis harnesses and then swap the whole thing when I go to phase 2.

That makes more sense although I still don't know what you are planning.

Just make a quick conversion harness and run a few leads. It's not too difficult.

I did some more prep work on the new engine. Mainly cutting off some bosses on the right side that prevented me from bolting the mount bracket down all the way. The left side is going to take a bit more work, but I can't do that until I can get the block in the truck. I still need to install my Sorento oil pan. Hopefully tomorrow.

Due to the low height of my ceiling, I'm going to have to cut the hood latch support out in order to have enough room to get the engine in and out. I finally put my silver hood on so I could make sure the latch support was in the correct position before I started cutting. This hood opens a whole lot easier than the smashed up old one.

One thing I hadn't done since I bought the truck was change the plugs and wires. Given how beat up the truck was, I didn't want to take the chance that any of the plugs were stripped. Now that that doesn't matter, I thought it'd be fun to do a compression test before I yanked the old engine out.

It was basically running on four and a half cylinders

This is the #5 spark plug.



The other plugs were ok. Cylinders 2-6 were all between 150 and 165 psi. Cylinder 1 was at 115. The wires were in really bad shape. The number 2 wire came apart on me when I pulled the boot off. I can't believe this truck was running as well as it was.

Can you take the front clip off of these things easily? Might give you more room to take the engines in/out. I know that is how a lot of Jeep people do theirs. Just a few bolts and you have a ton more room.

It's all spot welded. That's why I wanted to line up the new hood. I wanted to make sure everything was where it needs to be so I can make some brackets before I cut out the latch support.

I'm also going to carve out a bunch of excess sheet metal to make room for the larger Outlander radiator I picked up. That's going to be fun.

Please don’t hack it up. Push it out to the driveway when you drop it in. Looking good though.

Yeah I'm surprised your suggestion was to cut as well. What's wrong with pushing it outside? Or better yet, just let the air out of the tires. Boom....there is your room.

There's a 2 inch lip where the driveway ends and the garage floor begins. It'd be a pain the get it back in there. Especially if I have to take it in and out several times to build the drivers side motor mount and a few other things I'm planning.

Trust me, I've thought this through. The frame is stout as hell, but body on this truck is a flimsy piece of shit. It's pretty hard to make it any weaker than it already is. I've got a piece of 3/4" box steel I'm going to use as the backbone for a removable hood latch support. It'll be stronger when I'm done.

Why not just leave the truck in the driveway until you finish the motor mounts? Also coop has a good idea of airing down the tires. I would suggest going one step further. Take off the front tires and let her down or even crank down the front torsion bars until you get enough clearance.

If the hood latch is bothering you guys this much, you're going to cry when you see what I'm doing about that big MIVEC solenoid

Wonder if you could cut it down a bit to fit.
